I take about 8 grams of calcium carbonate a day, not by itself, but added to a poppy pod tea (made using a stovetop expresso maker). I add the calcium carbonate because when mixed with the poppy pod solution it forms calcium morphenate, which I stongly believe is more orally active than the morphine salts found in the pod.

However, 8 grams of calcium carbonate is quite abit to be consuming everyday. Should I be concerned?

Well hypercalcemia (too much calcium in the blood) can fuck you up... I had a panic attack.. took myself to the ER had taken 2 tums an hour previous and they were checking my parathyroid to make sure everything was okay. If I were you I would get some blood work done. Calcium is good for you, however like everything else you can take too much.

I am not sure if how much you are taking is too much.. how many tums makes 8 grams?

They're on average 500mg each, so he'd be taking 16 tums a day.
Funny thing is I just checked my bottle of tums and it says "16 per day max", so I assume you're fine.

My grandmother took about 20 500mg Tums a day (so 10g) for the last 25 years of her life and she had no problems. She just had heartburn a lot so she popped tums like Pez. Otherwise she was as healthy as a 25-year-old at age 80. And her bones were strong.

I think there are some risks associated with it though, like the potential to develop kidney stones, so you might want to check that out.

Yea if it's as much or less than the amount on the bottle then it's fine, he'll have strong bones.. like a previous poster said watch out for kidney stones...

Firstly, you're not eating 8g of CaCO3 because XX% of that is reacting to form the Calcium Morphenate precipitate (I haven't had enough sleep to do the equations)..

Just adjust you additional calcium intake accordingly (e.g. no need to take calcium mineral supplements)

Even if you were just consuming 8g calcium carbonate a day, other than the risks of hypercalcaemia [assuming a reasonable bioavailability of the Ca2+ ion]
and kidney stones, which are a build of minerals not necessarily calcium (even though they are called calculus (s.)); the primary risk would be rebound heartburn or interruption to your digestive system if your diet was lacking in acids/compounds which induce acid (nicotine, alcohol etc).. I would have thought that unless you're on additional Ca Supplements or a stronger antacid-type drug like a 2nd generation antihistamine (zantac etc)

Do you find calcium carbonate as efficient as sodium carbonate? It seems to be weaker in my opinion, but I don't know much about it.
