Caffeine addiction

You could try mixing decaf with regular. Maybe start with 1/4 decaf and work up to like 1/2. I don't see why you have to quit altogether. A retreat would be cool, if only that were an option.

dandelion tea (roasted dandelion roots), is actually the best replacement for coffee that Iv'e come across.

It tastes very similar and also acts as a detox tea, doesn't contain caffeine.

I think a couple coffee's is okay every week but beyond that (and it looks like some people are abusing it)

I dont think its doing much for general health/wellbeing

Personally I've never had a problem with coffee and addiction, that could be attributed to the fact that I cant make good coffee at home and i'm poor as fuck.

haha caffeine addiction... you're not kidding i see. Maybe try some exercise, that can be uplifting/calming at the same time ;)

And yeah any black tea is good. green tea is relaxing due to theanine

Progress has been going good.

It helped to start writing down what I had each day.

I am forcing myself to cut down to a minimal amount because I am going to India in 2 days. The worst thing I can imagine right now is a caffeine headache while haggling a taxi in rupees.

Had headaches twice:
The day I switched from 4 cups of black tea to 2 cups (cut in half), and
Today when I switched from 2 cups of black tea to 2 cups of green tea (again, cut in half). This one is subtle and I'm not taking acetiminophen for it.

So I'm at like 60 mg caffeine per day-- What a relief. The final headache will be bearable (when it inevitably happens). I think I've finally got this!!!

^Sounds good. I'm proud of you and all the progress you've made. :) Have a fantastic and safe trip to India, sweetie. <3

Big up on cutting down. I also had a lifelong addiction to pot, booze and other drugs. Now I've been sober from them for 2.5 years but still drink caffein every day. Like you, caffein was my first drug and has been with me ever since. I've threatened to quit SO many times and its the one thing I haven't been able to kick. Sometime I don't drink it until the afternoon though and then its just a bit of tea, so maybe I'm just on a 20 year tapering plan....

One thing I've found to be great in the mornings is instead of coffee or tea I fill a quart mason jar with filtered water and maybe squeeze some lemon in it. Drink the entire thing and it will help you poop and it will wake you up. Good luck!

It's hard for me cause iced coffee is so fucking delicious and refreshing. Then again I'm not trying to stop using caffeine, I like what it's been doing for me.

Cut it back gradually ,i drink no caffine after noon ,used to drink dr pepper until bed time .

i used to work at a coffeeshop & i know exactly what you mean about caffeine withdrawal heaches-- they are horrific.

i would drink a large iced americano (~6 espresso shots) twice a day every day i worked & then on my days off, i would go through withdrawal.

that's when i realized i had a problem & had to slowly taper before cutting it out (almost) completely.

i still have cups of green tea every now & then, but nothing like i did before! i hope your trip went/is going well. best of luck in continuing to quit <3

I've been getting more into caffeine ever since I quit pot about a year ago. It's like brewing tea became a ritual that filled the void of quitting smoking pot. I think it's good to remember the limit to moderate caffeine consumption, which is around 300mgs a day, so 3 cups of coffee, around 6 cups of black tea, or 12 cups of green tea. The best thing you can do when tackling caffeine use is keep a tally of of how many mgs you take, in what form, and when. Usually adverse effects like headaches and crashes come when you exceed this limit.

There's also caffeine free teas, I find Tetley's decaffeinated Orange Pekoe to be decent with honey and milk. Rooibois and chamomile are also delicious and very good for your health, of course that doesn't help you coffee drinkers. Try to eat lots of bananas and take B vitamins if you feel yourself drained from too much caffeine.

Anyone here have a problem with caffeine pills?

Yes and no, I used to take a full one every morning with my daily 16oz coffee but now I usually take a quarter to a half pill.

I used to laugh at the idea of caffeine addiction. For those of you doing so...if its so easy then completely cut it out of your diet and get back to me in three days. If your consuming 200+mg of caffeine a day which isn't that hard, then I think you'll be in for a nice surprise. Not to say it compares to something like CT Xanax but its no picnic being exhausted for days when you still have shit to get done.

I'm working on tapering at the moment. I usually don't drink caffeine for several hours. Until I go to work that is. But on my days off I sometimes just have a cup of tea. My caffeine intake has gone from massive to pretty low over the course of the last 2 years. I was gettting lots of side effects.

Yeah if my daily Adderall dose doesn't clean me out I'll drink a cup of coffee just to poop!

I realise I'm addicted to caffeine after reading this thread.
I'm fine with it though.
for now at least.

On workdays i usually set my alarm 20 minutes earlier, pop 300mg caffeine pills while still in bed, and only manage to get up after they kicked in.

Its fucked up being dependent. What if i run out? Can't be late for work. After my holidays, i will try to make it a habit to go to bed earlier and see if i can do without the caff.

ugh - in the rehab i was in whenever someone left a coffee cup around there would be a 24 hour cuppa strike - no coffee. Horrible - I remember having headaches, not sleeping well. Not nice - a whole rehab of people jonesing for coffee LOL. YOu shoulda seen us when we got it back - like we taken a whole lot of uppers.
