CA, San Bernadino - 06.26.04 - Electric Daisy Carnival *REVIEW*

Just got back from EDC. It was absolutely mindblowing. The trance hanger was kinda depressing with the mass amounts of e-puddles in the middle of the dance floor, so I didn't spend much time in there. The Visionaries and Living Legends had great sets on the hip-hop stage.

I spent most of my time in the drum n bass hanger, which was immensely satisfying. Planet of the Drums (DJ Dara, AK1200, Dieselboy, and Messinian) tore shit up. I'm a little cracked out at the moment but just know that it was really incredible.

Just got home as well, and reporting from the main "insomnia stage" (hard house, hard trance) and the hardcore stage. I LOVED THEM. I was expecting a bunch of little candy ravers, but it was incredible. I have NOTHING bad to say about the event at all, except that my girl, Lisa Lashes, never showed up!!! :( :( I met a ton of kids there who were waiting especially for her, and she no-showed.

As for the "e-puddles" in the trance rooms, there were some around the edges of the rooms, but in the center the party was raging. The hardcore room was insane and the main "Insomniac" stage killed it. I stood in front for several hours. Especially liked the DJ's "Anybody But Bush" t-shirt!!

There was also an awesome booth for a new hard NRG site, which was better than a lot of the big DJ rooms. They were spinning Tidy Trax and the like, they were very good. But I can't remember the name of their site.

The vibe was excellent. This is the 3rd rave I have gone to and the first that I really partied at (I usually sick to 21+ clubs like Spundae, AHP, Trance Club Heaven, etc.) I would definitely go back next year!!!

PS: Was NOT at all into the psy/Goa area, bleh!!! But that's only because it's not my personal taste.

Yo Psilo707, you missed out fool. I got some video of me in the BIG ultra circle, and when you see it you're gonna cry, it looks that sweet :p
One of the best parties I have ever been too, and I was sober for 5+ hours.

As for the music, POTD took the cake. Their room was insane, the music was oh-so hard, and the MCs actually made the sets BETTER! DnB the way it was meant to be played....FUCKEN HARD. The main trance room I thought was a little lacking, it was cool but I never really was blown away by any of the djs who dropped in. The individual tents had some really good music, and whoever was playing the tribal house in the outside arena was throwing down some mesmerizing records. Those tribal drums were sooooo beautiful.

If you guys missed out on this, then don't miss Nocturnal. The raves look to be really good this year :) The Orange Show really is the best place to hold these events, I've never once had a problem there, and they never bitch about the stuff you bring in.

I might be alone on this (but I don't care). I thought the best area was the reggae truck that was spinning reggae, oldies and salsa. Sister Nancy's "Bam Bam" was a great way to end the night! I had a fucking great time and don't mind the fact that my ass needs an ice pack cuz I'm so dam soar from dancing n shit. Meet up with JBizzle and Thursday to party and caught the 12 o'clock show of bright orange glow stick by Tribal Effect. Now we just gotta chill the fuck out and gear up for Nocturnal... Pictures soon to come.

lol Larr_E, judging from your avatar no shit you liked the reggae truck the best :D
And glad you caught the circle...that was fun.

I have a hard time believeing POTD had the best set, i've seen them before and never been blown away by them...I think dieselboy specifically is a lot better when he spins by himself.

ahahahhaha

Are you SURE you REALLY want me to tell you Mampi Swift's set was my favorite of the night??? Are you SURE you REALLY want me to tell you how jammed the room was at that point, and that the MCs had some sweet tag teaming going on???

Ah hell, I'm sure you do. I'll sum it up from one guy's quote off of SDR.com
And goddamn did you catch the Jungle room? I swear it was eating ravers raw and spitting them out the door.

Damn man!! I knew I was missing out, I couldn't do too much from up here in the bay though.. that sucks... I knew you'd tear the ultra-circle up. So how many people gathered up into it?

I'll be going to Nocturnal for SURE because ill be back in san diego by then.

Damn I'm really upset I missed this circle. Is there any way you could send me the video as well? I would love to see it.

I saw both J Majik and Mampi Swift and they were quite impressive. I hadn't seen either of them live before and they made a great first impression =D

I also agree that the MCs for the night really added a great element to the music and vibe. Everyone was so excited - raising their hands and yelling at the top of their lungs. I don't rave often and this is actually the first rave I've been to in the United States (went to the Love Parade and Ibiza last summer), so I'm not entirely sure on what the "norm" for the vibe is, but I sure as hell had a great time at EDC. The atmosphere and vibe was, for the most part, very welcoming and entertaining. I still get a kick out of seeing kids on E discovering wonderful new things (not the e-tards that roll every weekend but the ones who you can tell are reallly appreciating it).

I will definitely do my best to make it to Nocturnal later this summer.

P.S. Can anyone recommend to me any good Drum and Bass clubs/events in the LA area? I doubt there are many that are entirely DnB, but there must be some weekly events at clubs and whatnot. I've liked Drum and Bass for some time now, but never had the true experience until last night, dancing the night away 35 feet from some of the most talented DJs I've ever heard. As you can tell I am now very interested :D

Doc Martin's set sucked last year and This year he was a little bit better. I still think Doc Martin isn't that good. He just doesn't try anymore. Miguel Migs & Jay-J, thats a different story. Yet again Jay-J did not dissappoint me! Migs was a little bit mellow in the beggining but got funky at the end. Me and my GF dropped half an E each and saw DJ Dan. He was ok I guess.

So I ended up driving down from Nor Cal for this on Saturday morning, and I'm really glad I did. I had an awesome time with my boo-PN <3!! We were gonna be sober for this one, but ended up spliting a free medusa my friend hooked it up with! So that made the night better!! :)
I still wish we could have gotten there early for Felix da housecat's set at 6:15- 2 early weak!!! Did anyone catch his set?? I was surprised that Doc Martin was a lot better than last time I seen him! Doc started his set off jazzy, which was dope then got mellow and busted out some latin shit, which I danced my ass off too. Miguel migs and JayJ were dope, as always!!! I think they also should have booked Louie Vega!! That would have made my night!
I caught Dj Dan's set only cuz my friend Jason told me he was tearin it up! I noticed the Ultra circle from a distance-that was dope! Took me back to the good ol' Homebase daze!! Eventhough, i'm not too into progressive shit anymore, I guess Dan did a good job at tearin it up!
The jungle room was dope! I thought the burning man stage was also dope!! It convinced me to check out burning man!! The Reggae truck was coo too!! haha the reggae truck!! I was jammin tho :)..
There was also a tent outside playin some dope house beats!! Overall, I had a fuckin fabulous time!!
I hope the house lineup is good at Nocturnal, so I can hit it up. I really hate only partying til 2 A.M. though and no fuckin official after parties?

No arguments here, the reggae van saved the entire night from a bunch of really shitty music! Surprisingly, the house room went off quite a bit during the night (the lineup sucked but the djs managed to bring some really good house, even if they trainwrecked the transitions half the time), and I ended up missing most of the hip hop because I was glued to the house/reggae areas. The DNB sucked, as usual, but that's only because I think DNB sucks and if I want to hear real jungle I'll hear it at the upcoming DUB party (soundmurderer what?). Anyway, if anyone is interested I got the reggae van's business card with their booking info, plus I think they sell cds and tshirts and shit. Next orange show part to hit up is gonna be rock da bells, hopefully I'll actually meet a BLer there. And if people are interested I'll post up the DUB party info, as its gonna be one helluva jungle/raggae blowout!
