Buspar question...

I just got a script for Buspar 15 mg... and I asked the pharmacist if they were similar to Hydroxyzine (those made me sick) and she said they were similar to that and alittle like xanax? Is that true? Any advice from ppl whose been on them?? Thanks
 
not even close is right. these gave me horrible brain shivers (re: brain zaps) and when I found out they take 2-3 weeks to begin working, I promptly threw them away. Your doctor or shrink is obviously too scared to prescribe benzodiazapines, as vistraril (hydroxyzine) is nothing but a glorified benedryl. if you're taking something for anxiety, try to find a drug that works on the GABA receptors. if your doctor will not prescribe any benzodiazapines try to get something like gabapentin (Neurontin) instead.
 
They made me more Anxious :| Horrible, horrible things. Not like Benzos at all, not like Hydroxyzine at all. They're closest to SSRIs to be honest.
But yea, they're fucking awful and utterly useless for Anxiety... Useless for everything to be honest :\

My Psychiatrist at the time (who was an utter bitch and completely idiotic) scripted me them along with Mirtazapine, and I was suicidal from day 1 :(
 
it is NOT a benzo, its a shitty "non sedating anti-anxiety agent" that doesn't work on most people who get it, and takes weeks to work if at all. it has a weird mechanism of action and is just a complete fuckin joke. if your doc won't give you a real anti-anxiety drug, tell him to fuck off and find a doc that will.

Yeah im stil taking xanax .5's 3-4 times a day... I was prescribed to the 2mg's until my mother in law told him i was a coke addict... then he said he wanted to taper me off the xanax cause my addiction problem. But i somewhat had an argument with him bc xanax is the only thing that helps my anxiety....
 
I took one today, and i feel NOTHING. Hopefully i can get him to change his mind about highering my dosage on xanax again... bc i need shit that works instantly.
 
to add to what i said, i do wonder which FDA administrator had to get sucked off to get this drug approved, i mean, it works as a 5-HT1A serotonin receptor agonist and moderate affinity to D2-dopamine receptors; it has NO EFFECT on GABA, which has for decades been established as THE place to tickle for all problems associated with anxiety.

i mean honestly, when i'm having an anxiety attack, i need something that works NOW, not 2 weeks from now, it's a fuckin joke.

doctors can be real jackasses sometimes :! . try explaining that you're not a junkie and xanax is the only thing that helps. i've been in that situation and it can be fustrating. hope things all work out well for you.:)
 
That pharmacist is an idiot.

I'd hate to see any advice about interactions, or medication in general that this pharmacist gives out. 8o
 
most pharmacists are pretty inept. either that or they think you, the consumer, is autistic. they never get into how things work, like how suboxone is a partial opioid agonist, or which receptors certain drugs work on and which ones inhibit what and so on. i don't even think my pharmacist knows what SSRI stands for. they are so used to dealing with the stupid public that they think they can get away with giving you a completely wrong answer or dumbed-down version. it's rediculous we have to do all the research of their chosen profession for ourselves.
 
the only good thing these are for are zapping your brain. take one and see for yourself. 15mg is the dose I took when I felt it.
 
I know you didn't mention anything about it, but I feel I should warn you anyways. DO NOT SNORT them, you will have the worst time of your life. Throw the script away and come back in a few weeks and say they make you feel wierd and you don't like them, doctors pretty much perscribe anything they can think of before benzos if you're a teen or young adult.
 
Brain zap is an odd sensation in the head. It literally feels like an electrical zap. Can cause disorientation after it happens. It is most commonly seen in withdrawal from certain drugs, especially those that work on serotonin and norep.

But BuSpar has the odd ability to cause this side effect while using it.
 
I was on buspar for a while. I had very nasty side effects for about two weeks, but then they did start working very well for my anxiety, and the side effects subsided.

However, this is nothing like xanax as it isn't quick acting. It builds up in your system, and then it either works or it doesn't. If you can survive the first while of ill side effects that is.

Buspar helped me out for about three months, but then stopped doing anything at all, so at that point I got switched onto a benzo.

Best of luck, I know what a bitch anxiety can be.
