The color red struck my memory like
The harsh reality I once lived.

Hunger, rage, fear, hatred and confusion
Rained upon every poor soul at those camps.

I remember standing under a blizzard of ashes
Which had the stench of one who once lived.

Each flake that fell from the dark sky
Was another stab in my once loving heart.

How many more of my family and friends
Had to blow into the wind before the hated
Finally understood?

Everything I knew and loved has died.
My heart is now filled with hatred.

I can breathe but I too am dead.
There was a time when I once lived.

Something I wrote in 2002. Really one of my first poems I've done. Like it or not I will be posting more.
