Burma opium production rises again!

Very interesting, but I find it hard to believe that Afghan dope really doesn't make it to the US. I read that the harvest this year was expected to rise again this year and be 90+% of the world's heroin supply. I also read that per capita Americans use a fair bit of heroin, though eastern Europe, HK, and some other places certainly rival it. Just doesn't make sense that very little to none of it would make it to the US... But then again it's so different in every place, I mean, living in MD I never once saw a stamp bag (though I won't say I was ever a regular user).

I'm surprised that there's no powder on the WC as well, but maybe the Mexican gangs really do a good job of keeping others out (and then the second border would explain why Vancouver is powder...). I feel like the market is somehow different on the WC as well at this point.

Take into consideration that heroin is illegal everywhere, but the entire pacific seaboard now has medical/legal marijuana, so it takes serious additional effort to become involved with illegal drugs. The existence of tar also makes the jump from pharmaceuticals to heroin a bigger leap. Powder dope looks like a crushed up pill, and is as simple to use, tar on the other hand seems like a different drug entirely, and requires special methods to use effectively.

Basically all heroin in Chicago, and thus destinations that follow Chicago in the Midwest, is brought in by the Sinoloa Cartel. This is a well known fact. And of course this is all powder #4. I don't know if this heroin is of Colombian or Mexican origin but personally I highly doubt that cartels are unable to produce high quality #4 in Mexico. If the cartels can grow a huge amount of poppies and they also have the kind of technology that would allow them to produce high quality crystal meth, there is absolutely no excuse for them not to produce high quality powder heroin. Cartels are sophisticated organization. Its a mystery why black tar is still so popular for distribution on the West Coast.
