I've just been prescribed Zyban (bupropion) 150mg tablets for depression and anxiety. Does anyone else use this stuff? I believe it's called Wellbutrin in America. What have been your experiences?

Does anyone know whether bupropion is always used in sustained-release formulations?

It does come in IR formulas, it also comes in a 12-hour release and a 24-hour release. From what I understand, in America, if it's prescribed as Zyban, it is prescribed for smoking secession, and Wellbutrin for Depression, but they are one in the same. I'm prescribed the 12-hour formula (SR). I don't notice a whole lot of difference. My peaks seem to be a tad bit higher and my valleys, while there are less of them, are lower. A/Ds affect everyone differently though, so don't go off of what I say lol. If you're taking these meds, it would be advisable to not take anything else that greatly affects serotonin (i.e. MDMA, LSD, etc., etc.).

Did it give you energy or make you agitated?

It's a dopamine norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor thus it's a stimulating anti-depressant and ya it can cause anxiety in some people. I get the bupropion Sr 150mg pills as well since my insurance won't cover the XL version which lasts 24 hours instead of 12 so you only have to dose once a day instead of twice if your taking 300mg's. I am on 300mg's a day and you have to take the pills 8-12 hours apart so it's abit more of a hassle then the XL's.

It's the only anti-depressant that i can really take for my bipolar depression and thankfully it works.

It worked pretty well for me for about 2 months for depression and then the side effects overran whatever benefits I was getting from it. ie headaches, no appetite, my body's thermal system went out of whack, night sweats, chills, general malaise, etc. I went off of it cold turkey about 5 weeks ago. The withdrawals suck really bad.

Thanks for the helpful responses.

I started today at 150mg. I had alot more energy than usual. But I also came off a maximum dose of Avanza extremely quickly before starting the bupropion. Avanza is very sedating, so it was like going from total chill to actual paranoia. I also didn't sleep last night until like 4am.

For me it would be great to lose some weight because I definitely gained with the Avanza. I'm concerned about sleep but I saw some dipshit GP today and got temazepam to help with that.
