Bupropion is a norepinephrine-dopamine reuptake inhibitor, the primary pharmacological action of the drug is as a mild dopamine reuptake inhibitor and also a much weaker norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor as well as a nicotinic acetylcholine receptor antagonist. Chemically, bupropion belongs to the class of aminoketones and is similar in structure to stimulants such as cathinone andamfepramone, and to phenethylamines in general. It is an antidepressant but also works as a stimulant.
So my question, has anyone had any experience with bupropion for weight loss or as an appetite suppressant? I know unlike SSRI medications it is supposedly weight neutral.. but I cannot really find concrete evidence online about whether or not it is an appetite suppressant or increases your metabolic rate. I've read conflicting evidence on the NHI website plus other psychiatric forums and documents. I understand like any drug its effects vary between each individual, but overall if anyone has any info on this or personal experience that would be greatly appreciated!
Also I just want to state I have no intention of misuse of bupropion as it has no recreational value, is highly dangerous in larger doses (due to increased risk of seizure and bradycardia, cardiac failure and cardiac arrest). I am just trying to find info. Thanks!
