Bupe Clinic: Cameras in the toilet?!

I am currently in Sydney and on a buprenorphine (Suboxone) program at "Kobi Clinic" in Waverly, Sydney (not far from Bondi Junction).

Today was quite humid so I went to their toilet before being "dosed" (I really hate that word for some reason), pulled down my pants to my feet, and used some toilet-paper to wipe the sweat from between my legs, balls and arse-cheeks... just generally 'freshening up' as I walk long distances each day to get to the clinic and university. Whilst washing my hands I looked up and realised there's one of those round dark tinted plastic half-spheres with a camera in it pointed directly at me and the toilet?! I had used the toilet before this to urinate many times but had never before noticed I was on film until today.

Now I'm a pretty free, open and physically liberal guy, and usually don't have any qualms about people seeing me naked, BUT there's something really strange about people video-taping you while you're intimately cleaning your privates. It's not even something I would be comfortable with my partner seeing, yet alone some random methadone-clinic workers I barely know. I can't shake the feeling that my privacy has been severely infringed upon.....

I was thinking maybe the reason for it was that they needed to make sure that the urine tests they sometimes conduct aren't faked or adulterated (maybe because some people are under legal restrictions with probation or something?). Secondly there's the obvious factor that it could be to stop people from shooting up in the toilet.

Even though I think neither of these reasons warrants video-taping people in the toilet, at the very least they could put a sign up saying: "NOTICE: TOILET UNDER VIDEO-SURVEILLANCE" or something.

What does everyone else think of this? Is it normal? Am I being too sensitive? It's a strange situation as the Kobi Clinic is privately owned (as far as I know), not public like some of the others. However, surely filming someone naked without their knowledge - even if it is on private property - is against the law?

Either way I am now looking for somewhere else where I can finish the Suboxone program as I don't think I will ever be comfortable talking to the same people each day whom I'm pretty sure just watched me scrubbing my perineum and associated areas clean..... I even did that thing where you wipe between the cheeks, inspect the paper only to realise there's a bit of fecal matter and then going through the motions to remove it, checking each time.... :(

I didn't think that sort of thing was allowed, but I guess anything's possible in our great country :|

Maybe it was a fake camera? :\

Yeah that doesn't sound right, or legal for that matter.

I'd make some inquiries.

That really does not sound right man, I don't know shit about methadone clinics or the law in regards to cameras in toilets but I would like to think if someplace wanted to put a camera in their toilet there would atleast need to be a sign on the door or something to notify anyone using said toilet.

I would call up a lawyer and see if the clinic are within their rights to do this and if they aren't then find out what actions you can take against them. I would be very interested to hear on the legalities of this.

I got quite a few LOLs out of this. thanks for the unnecessarily graphic detail. haha

Yeah thats fucked if they are filming people. You should go speak to whoever is managing the place and voice your concerns.

Yeah I'd say the first step would be contacting whoever manages the clinic and confirming that they are infact filming the toilets. If that's the case, I'd contact a lawyer and figure out the exact legalities of the situation. If there's no sign, no warning, then I'm sure that what they're doing must be illegal on some level.

What are you, 5 years old? You realise you could have just unzipped your fly. It kind of reminds me of this.....

As for your privacy concerns, you were in an addiction clinic. They treat drug addicts who have a tendency to shoot up in bathrooms. Not everyone is as trust worthy as your self. I'm sure after discovering the third over dose they figured it made sense to have the bathrooms monitored. If nothing else it would be a OHS issue. A camera doesn't mean they were recording you, it is just as likely a live feed that is connected to a monitor. I would say it is no different than camera's monitoring a private hospital room at an addiction clinic

^ I'm sure though that in a bathroom stall you have a reasonable expectation of privacy. There need to be signs saying that there is recording in the bathroom.

I would definitely be talking to the manager of the clinic about it.

Still, there could be a fat hairy guy in a darkened secruity room, furiously beating off whilst zoologist wipes his balls clean of sweat.

think about that the next time your pants are down by your ankles.

I want the kind of job where you have enough down time to beat off during the day.

The only time I have really felt uncomfortable is that one time a dude started beating off next to me while taking a piss at the Whickham

In this thread: a lot of dudes who get stage fright at a urinal and have to sit down to pee in a stall ;)

Yes it was exactly like that, which made it all the more embarassing. The fact was that my bonds undies managed to twist themselves around so my scrotal sac was wedged in between the elastic, so I had to do a full adjustment, and I didn't want to sit on the toilet for some reason...

I have the feeling that camera isn't allowed to be there. That's like a peeping tom, I don't care if addicts use the bathroom. That's a invasion of privacy straight up.

They wanna see your huge piece of man-meat ya fucking druggo! haha, jks. hope treatment is working well, maintenance or withdrawal?
