Buffalo Township grandmother again charged with marijuana sales
A 64-year-old grandmother is again accused of a major marijuana sales conspiracy based in her Buffalo Township home.
Candace Delaven Kelly of 410 Kepple Road is accused of selling as much as 100 pounds of marijuana a year for more than four years.
Kelly was originally arrested last fall, but those charges were withdrawn.
Her arrest on Tuesday followed her indictment by a state grand jury on Dec. 16.
She was picked up at her residence at about 11 a.m. by state troopers and state Attorney General drug agents.
The grandmother of five is accused of selling marijuana, drug sales conspiracy, and having marijuana and two other type of drugs, as well as drug paraphernalia.
Her preliminary hearing is scheduled for Feb. 5 in Saxonburg District Judge Sue Haggerty's office.
Kelly was released on a $100,000 unsecured bond.
Kelly originally was charged in October with having about 64 pounds of hydroponically grown marijuana, worth about $190,000, and close to $400,000 in cash.
In a search of her mobile home, police said they found drug pipes, items used to package the marijuana, a marijuana grinder, digital scale, hallucinogenic mushrooms and hashish, and papers showing the extent of trafficking.
Troopers said nothing new was found on Tuesday.
According to the grand jury presentment made public on Tuesday, Trooper Jeff Brautigam testified there was evidence of a “multiple year marijuana trafficking enterprise” dating to 2009.
Brautigam testified he had written permission from Kelly to search her residence.
Kelly allegedly said she bought “large quantities” of marijuana from a northern California man for $3,300 a pound and sold it for a $100-per-pound profit. Some marijuana came from Oregon.
About $300,000 of the cash was found in a duffle bag under Kelly's bed. The remaining $93,000 was found in smaller bundles.
