Tennessee police might need better instruction in botany and Buckeye football.

A 65-year-old woman recently came under suspicion, she reported, for having a Buckeye leaf decal on her car. The cops mistook it for a marijuana symbol.

“It’s just amazing they would be that dumb,” Bonnie Jonas-Boggioni said.

She lives in Plano, Texas, but she grew up in Columbus and is known as a lifelong Buckeyes fan.

She has served as president of the Ohio State Alumni Club in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

On Feb. 4, Jonas-Boggioni and husband Guido Boggioni, 66, were driving home to Plano after a trip to Columbus to attend the funeral of his mother, Eleanor, 92.

They were in the westbound lanes of I-40, a few miles east of Memphis, when a black police SUV with flashing lights pulled them over, Jonas-Boggioni said.A second black SUV soon pulled up behind the first one.

“Knowing I wasn’t speeding, I couldn’t imagine why,” she said.

Two officers approached, one on each side of the car.

“They were very serious,” she said. “They had the body armor and the guns.”

Because the couple’s two schnauzers were barking furiously, one of the officers had Jonas-Boggioni exit the car so he could hear her better.

“What are you doing with a marijuana sticker on your bumper?” he asked her.

She explained that it is actually a Buckeye leaf decal, just like the ones that Ohio State players are given to put on their helmets to mark good plays.

“He looked at me like I was speaking a foreign language,” she said.

At that point, Boggioni got out of the car to show that he was wearing a commemorative sweatshirt from the 2002 national-championship season, complete with a Buckeye leaf.

The officer then explained that someone from outside his jurisdiction — apparently another officer — had spotted the leaf sticker and thought it might indicate that the car was carrying marijuana, Jonas-Boggioni said.

Wow... Even if it had been a pot leaf.. I can't believe a cop from one city called cops in another city to make a stop after spotting the car, and the stop was made. All based on a sticker. Pot or not. Fuckin' pigs need to stop enforcing immoral laws.

LOL yes because of course people who transport cannabis put a sticker of a leaf on their car to indicate they are doing so.

^Yeah, sort of. Or a maple leaf. Or some sort of fern.

This makes me want to sneak on to the police station parking lot with a few pot leaf stickers.

so having a marijuana decal is grounds for getting pulled over?

i thought cops had to have a REAL reason to pull someone over

like i understand it was a buckeye leaf but even if it was a weed leaf that doesnt seem like a reason that would hold up in court for pulling someone over? im no lawyer n it is the south so maybe it would but this is outragous

whole family are buckeye nuts tho, ill be sure to tell my dad bout this

I remember my brother as a teenager finding a Buckeyes hat at a thrift store, and taking out just enough of the embroidery so that it read "FUCK YES" =D

This doesn't surprise me. When I was young dumb and drove a Nissan full of wiseass left-wing bumper stickers, I once had a cop follow about an inch behind me (presumably reading the stickers) for several miles. I was going exactly 3mph over the speed limit the whole time, and didn't break any traffic rules. Finally he pulled alongside me and slowly passed me, but I could see in my peripheral vision he was glaring straight at me the whole time he passed. I resisted the urge to smirk and wave at him; I'm sure if I had, he would have angrily gestured and mouthed "pull over!", and given me a ticket for going 3mph over the limit.

I once asked a nurse who was married to a cop (very common, by the way) if cops commonly targeted drivers with subversive or countercultural bumper stickers. She looked at me astonished and said, "Um, does a bear shit in the woods?!"

Nowadays, I don't adorn my car with anything, either inside or outside. I recommend anyone who ever carries anything illegal in their car lose the vanity plates, funky paint job, bumper stickers, window decals, rear view mirror ornament, and really anything else that might make anyone look twice at their car. No American is more vulnerable and has fewer rights than when they're driving a car. Driving is not the time to express your free spirit.

I see no reason to draw attention to my vehicle. It's a mode of transportation and that's it. Idk why people think it's a good idea to have pot leaves or anything of the like even in their vehicle because cops don't care about how cool anybody looks, they just want the easiest targets.

The things police don't know could fill an ocean.

The things police do know could fill a happy meal.

I remember laughing at some cop who couldn't pronounce "cannabinoids" He kept saying "ka-ka-kan, than just said marijuana" When talking about the jwh's..the new scourge of the country. 8)
