bruises for breakfast

i guess all we really do is paint rings around them
red rings of paint to encircle our bruises
so we dont prod the sore spots again

but they never really heal do they?

once i tried staying still
but all i achieved was age
fractures and bleach my reward
for years spent hiding under the sun

only after i moved again
did i discover fresh bruises
hidden in places i never knew i had

bruises for breakfast today and again

i guess all we really do is paint rings around them

then reapply the paint when it fades
and wince as we prod those sore spots again
