(From the chemist's perspective, why would he remove impurities before selling it? that just makes it weigh less!)
It can be removed by doing an acetone wash, but that also removes some of the MDMA.

no, that doesn't explain the stickiness or the brown color. safrole is a clear oil in it's pure state. i'm sorry but mdma hcl contaminated with safrole/isosafrole will NOT get sticky, just oily, so something else must be causing that. if there is EXCESSIVE safrole/isosafrole/mdp2p then the crystals will simply oil out and crystallization will be very difficult. decomposed organic compounds are responsible for it being sticky and they have NO reason to be in anything you plan to consume so please clean it up first. this can be remedied with a proper treatment of acetone or blowing a fan over it for long enough. safrole/isosafrole are volatile oils and will evaporate pretty quickly. it will leave a root beer-ish scent or floral scent (in the case of mdp2p). recrystallization with acetonitrile or dry IPA can solve this for odorless mdma hcl of much higher purity.

those colored impurities, who knows WTF they are b/c the impurities depend on the synthesis used and nobody will know the route they took without $$$$$$ analytical equipment or asking the chemist himself. so best bet is to just clean it up. chop up the mdma hcl as fine of a powder as you can (a pestle would help here) this is to increase the effectiveness of the washes by increasing surface area. then as the 2nd post said, wash it with anhydrous freezer-chilled acetone until no more color change is noted (the acetone washes will remove some of the color), then spread the washed mdma hcl thinly on a glass pyrex dish and let it air dry. once dry, chop it up and let it dry more. acetone evaporates quickly and cleanly. mdma hcl is practically insoluble in acetone so you won't lose any unless your technique is not good or, more likely, your acetone has water in it. mdma hcl is fully soluble in water so you want to get your acetone as dry as possible. using oven-baked anhydrous MgSO4 is not the most effective but it IS the easiest and most OTC way to do it and won't get the acetone fully anhydrous but it will dry it out good enough for use here. if you need additional details just ask. i STRONGLY recommend an acetone wash on that nasty stuff

next time shop around for product from a more respectful chemist OR get acquainted with purification techniques. the techniques are not hard at all and can be done with OTC materials. in the name of harm reduction i'd be more than happy to explain in detail or a step-by-step if necessary.

i remember reading a lab report from a guy who had crystals similar to yours, and he ran it through a gas chromatography process to find his product was 96.5% MDMA, 3% MDP-2P, and .5% of other various impurities. I would recommend doing what poopstation said and cleaning it up with some anhydrous acetone.

yeah it really doesn't take much at all for colored impurities to become noticeable. mdp2p or mdp2pol (the alcohol) will give it a yellowish tinge, i don't believe either is worrisome in regards to toxicity in the residual amounts that may be present within the crystal lattice. but definitely do wash the surface with acetone to remove all that other gunk
