Is it normal to be this brown?

A guys girlfriend tested it with Mandelin, Marquis and simons which all gave the right colors.

If the reagent test results were good then that suggests you should proceed with the normal amount of caution.

MDMA can be brown when the precursor chemicals have not been washed out properly - they don't have psychoactive effects so it's not concerning. This is sometimes done deliberately to make it harder to cut with white powder.
