the sun rose early that night
how i loved being surrounded by darkness
i was dancing for a moment
too short to measure by conventional standards
my dark world disappeared so very quickly
violently ripped from my fingers
by your slow burning hand
you melted away my asylum
leaving only shadows as refuge
everyone else’s eyes adjusted
their pupils grew small to block out your excess
you embraced your new children
and they wore their obedience like medals
you changed them slowly
burning you likeness on there skin
i however
lingered in the shadows
bound and restricted to a shrinking domain
the well from which i drank was tainted
my fallen empire was now rebuilt into a foreign land
i survived on the crumbs you left behind
i knew you’d distance yourself
gradually your brightness began to dim
and slowly the shadows became one.

Billy,
I read this three times. I never, ever do that.

This reminds me of how I feel when the party ends and the sun comes up, but I want to keep on dancing. Just my interpretation... Loved it.
