Bricks (written 06/23/06)

Nothing is real and that's fine, because I know now

A thief will try to steal what's mine, it's a raw town

It's a BrentwoodLife, a dull scythe,

a thousand deaths, so hold your gripes

No one's listening, no one cares,

the truth is treated as demons in nightmares

Fight smart, but never fight scared

Never expect your counterpart to fight fair

Hands up, protect yourself at all times

I write rhymes with the aid of mother greenleaf divine

So I can shift my perspective from murderous to accepting,

seething and wretched. It'll only kill me if I let it

So I get back up and knock Superman to the floor,

whores will be whores,

So Johnny get your gun, get your key and lock your doors

There ain't ever gonna be room for one more

She knocked down my wall, but I got all my bricks back

I'm fucked and you can't fix that, it was a mismatch

But I can rebuild and refill with vinegar and piss

Stiffen my wrists, ball up my fists and put your death on my wishlist

With the gift of the rift I relearned I'm a misfit

The hints were cryptic, caught a glimpse and felt gifted

With blindness revealed, ask myself, how'd I miss this?

Had I chose to keep my eyes closed or am I just oblivious?

Secrets sleep silently in the mind of the lascivious.

Completely coordinated and contrived,

from the lips of the deceiver to the ears of the deprived

One begs, the other chokes down the white slime

Easy to hide and hard to find. No one else gets inside.

No one here gets out alive. Rely on enzymes.

Strength of character is in decline

Give blood to the one that you found that night

Stare blank into mirror at the love of your life

I was broken and used when my dreams took flight

No reasons, no right, no plan, no invisible man

No one waiting with open hands - just lies

Now I'm a weapon, a sheild, a blade to wield with hatred and zeal

I've become a better person since forgetting to feel

I smile while I'm caught in the gears and the wheels

I grin at the pins in my skin and my eyes

We've all heard the word, but how's it defined?

What happened is dead. Right now? Is mine.

**Most of what I write is meant to be read aloud, so a lot of the punctuation is really there just there to guide the verbal rhythm

These last two lines are a knockout punch:

We've all heard the word, but how's it defined?

What happened is dead. Right now? Is mine.

Love the opening too:
Nothing is real and that's fine, because I know now

A thief will try to steal what's mine, it's a raw town

It's a BrentwoodLife, a dull scythe,
