Brett Favre has retired after just one season with the New York Jets, despite new head coach Rex Ryan (formerly Defensive Co-ordinator of Baltimore) pleading for another couple of years.

Brett Favre, known to be an emotional type of guy, retired this time without much fan fare and without even a press conference.

the New York Jets were praised as the team to beat in the AFC as they beat New England and then Tennessee (breaking their win-streak). however, the team faltered in December when they lost 4 out of their 5 games, placing them third in the AFC East and sans playoffs.

he did improve the Jets to 5 more wins, which was a place sorta considered as football purgatory because they have not won a championship since the days of Broadway Joe Namath.

do you all think he is done for good?
is he just too old now to cut it in the NFL?

he better be gone for good this time, Brett Farve was the worst thing to happen to the Jets, i am a BIG Jets fan but this year i didn't even want to watch the games because he just pissed me off. the last game was pathetic
Also Mangini was fired from the Jets in December so I am hoping this year my team will make a come back

I will believe it when a season goes by and he doesnt come back.

this is his what, 4th or 5th retirement?

he was done but he wasn't doneso, finished, fin - like he is now.

I mean, he did lead them to an 8-3 record before that cold weather hit. most NFL pundits were predicting a Giants/Jets SuperBowl, and Las Vegas was too. however, he led an epic late season collapse that cost their head coach his job.

now we find out that he hurt his shoulder or whatever. at the time I was just like "damn. that's a lot of interceptions he is throwing."

but yeah... now he is done. and unlike many NFL fans I have never been enamored with Brett Favre. sure, he has some charisma and that "American boy" look to him, but he has only won one Super Bowl.

I am a longtime Jets fan. I hope he is staying retired. I don't want to hear about him any more. We didn't make the playoffs with him, but Chad Pennington, who the Jets cut for Favre, led a previously 1 - 15 team to the playoffs? And now we have to watch Pennington excel for the Dolphins. Ugh.

I think about that often too, and I still think, obviously that old Favre > Chad Pennington.

I think the Dolphins really had great offensive coaching and struck gold with that "Wildcat" formation.

they are taking offensive plays straight from high school football play books!

The last 5 games of the season were very frustrating to watch. It seemed that a simple ten yard completion was almost impossible. And, they could not stop the opponents passing game when it mattered.

Now the Jets have an iffy QB situation, a suspect defense, and a salary cap nightmare. Looks like a long road ahead for the Jets and Jets fans.

as long as he stays away from tampa i dont care what he does.

You all need somone they resigned McCown and not Garcia. Speaking as a Jew the bucs ownership must be my brethren as they never spend money on a star player. Honestly I think the bucs will get stuck with a benchwarmer(e.g. Leftwich) from this year. Even though Im a Miami fan it pains me to see the bucs like this, right on the edge of doing something only to be shot down by mgmt.

hey... at least the Jets have a sweet kicker!

Nugent got star treatment at Ohio State. how bad ass would you feel, coming out to Ted Nugent's "Stranglehold" while the whole stadium shouted "Nuuuuuuuuuuuge."

it's something I think about often.

Whgats with all the Favre hating? the man never missed a start his whole career that is a mark I dont think we will ever see again. However I think if that wasnt the case they would have sat him in Seatle and let him rest up for the showdown with the Dolphins in week 17. I think they beat the seahawks with the backup QB. but you know what they say about ifs and buts.

Well, as you are pointing out, the "streak" might have done more harm than good (Just like Cal Ripken's streak).

The hating is based on the miserable performance that cost the Jets a playoff spot in the limited tiem frame they had to be a playoff contender.

After his tumultuous and acrimonious off-season dealings with various people, he needed to deliver, and he didn't.

Dont worry, Brett Ratliff is going to be an absolute star in the NFL.

my hate is based of off favre being a crying little baby. he acts like TO and keyshawn but everyone loves him sooooo much.

honestly... I've never really liked Brett Favre.

everybody was always "he is one of the greatest QBs of all time." sure, he is good. but not the best. sure he is tough, but I think there are tougher.

460 TD, 300 INT.

Thrre are many QBs who have similar ratios if not better. But we put up with the INTs because he is a "winner" and "wins the big games" right?

Wait a minute... He only won one super bowl.

What is the big deal about Favre then?
