Television Breaking Bad

Breaking Bad illegal downloads topped by Aussies

Australians were the leading illegal downloaders of the latest episode of US blockbuster TV series Breaking Bad.

In figures set to bolster the country's reputation for piracy, 16.1 per cent of early illegal downloads came from Australia.

The US came a close second with 16 per cent followed by Canada and the UK.

Melburnians were the worst offenders globally, accounting for about one in 20 illegal downloads. Sydney came third, with about one in 30.

The figures were drawn from a sample of more than 4000 downloads of torrent files, which allow peer-to-peer sharing of TV shows, movies, music and other files.

They were compiled by tech blog TorrentFreak throughout the day following the debut of the episode, Blood Money, on US TV on Monday.

The long-anticipated episode is the first in the second half of the fifth and final season and spurred huge piracy figures.

After 12 hours, half a million people had downloaded a copy via BitTorrent.

Foxtel aired the episode on Monday night, about five hours behind the US. It was also made available to Australians via the iTunes store.

This showed availability was not the reason people downloaded the show illegally, said Neil Gane, the managing director of anti-piracy group the Australian Screen Association.

They simply want to get it for free, he said.

"The latest illegal download figures of Breaking Bad yet again highlight Australia as having the highest per-capita piracy rates in the world."

I simply want to watch it on TV , like Americans do, and not wait for ages till its on, is that too much to ask. I dont get foxtel and I dont use the itunes store, never have, I'm not about to start just to buy episodes of BB when it's on torrents so quickly after it airs.

I basically watch every TV show and movie free online streaming. There's a couple really good sites that have new TV shows uploaded literally about an hour or two after they air live.

Ditto... I've watched the entire seasons of Breaking Bad, The Walking Dead, Homeland, Sons of Anarchy and the Shield for free now. Probably going to watch The Wire next

Ahh good choice, man. If you loved all those other shows you mentioned, you will love The Wire.

Watch The Sopranos yet? Definitely something else you'd like. Prison Break too.

There's nowhere to stream this? Shit! I know where I can watch it 1 or 2 hours after it ends, but I wanna watch it now dammit! It's not even a pay channel, and anyone with half a brain can figure out how to watch it the day after it comes out anyways, why do they have to be so frickin anal?!

FUCK! I didn't realize how close we were to the end of the episode. Argh! What an annoying cliffhanger. Argle-bargle!

Sent you a PM with a link.

This link saved me, I don't think I have to bother with torrents much anymore. This was up very fast and very good/easy to watch. The only reason I will continue with some torrents is to back up for later viewing down the line.

How many more are there to go? It does suck it's so close to the end, but I guess we have been discussing this for a while and knew it was coming.

I wonder how many will be more sympathetic towards Skylar's character after tonight's episode. She sure seems to be on Walt's side now, removing any doubt there was before.

Loved Lydia's appearance. I feel like Vince & Co. focus a lot on her legs. Am I wrong?
