Television Breaking Bad

Im not trying to be rude or anything, but you shouldnt say things like that whitout knowing...what if i tell you i lived almost a year with the fear of the popo knocking down my flat's door everyday? That i had to periodically knock myself out with xanax and alcohol because i couldnt sleep because every boom i heard in my head it was the cops and because of the paranoia? That more than once i had done excessive amounts of speed and i would sit for multpile hours on end being sure that TODAY is the day they come? And no it wasnt tweaker paranoia, i wasnt doing speed everyday, and its almost a miracle no raid happened. I am not going to go into specifis more than that because i wont incriminate myself for this shit. I might be young but ive been in enough shit to know.

Well, I'd say you lack empathy and the ability to relate to others who are going through an even worse (albeit fictional) situation than you were going through. Do you have children? A special needs teenager? A newborn baby? Losing your life or your freedom is one thing. Losing your children either via the state or death is a whole other world of pain. You seem to have issues with women in general. Now don't mistake that for me, "saying things without knowing". It's called forming an opinion based on the information that has been provided.

^HNIF said it but I think it bears repeating that this is a fictional situation. People's opinions of a fictional character are gonna be formed in a much different way than someone they read about in the paper. To color someone as lacking in empathy because he doesn't care for a member of the fairer sex on a TV show is a little harsh. IMO.
PK1's lack of empathy for Skyler White doesn't bug me much. Cause she's fake.
I do get where the Pro-Skyler people are coming from, though. She's a victim in this situation. It doesn't mean people can't think she's annoying or hate her but still be entirely empathetic and understanding to someone in a similar situation in real life.

Lori from TWD rightly assumed her husband was dead and looked for comfort elsewhere. Search some TV forums from back then and read some of the stuff that was written about her. Even before she pitted the two Alpha's against each other. It's kind of disgusting and it may well be an indication of peoples views on women in a larger sense. But I don't know that cause I don't really know the people that are behind those posts. I'm not necessarily willing to jump and make a personal assessment.

Not that anyone's asking me, but....... If I were to give an advisory on how to make your case against a female character, my first word of advice would be to leave words like "bitch" and "cunt" at the door. The latter in particular is so inflammatory, it's gonna cause a lot of people, in particular(obviously) females to immediately tune out the rest of what you have to say. Or immediately turn against you.
I'm not talking to anyone in particular. Just saying.
Overall, I believe I'd rather not see differences in opinion regarding Skyler White turn into something personal.

The opposition to this character type is something very primal, I think. Skyler represents capitulation to an edifice of artifice. In order to reach individuation, Walt must rebel against such stringencies, and the audience rebels along with him.

This is why he sets cars on fire.

You cannot censor the collective unconscious. The results of doing so are always disruptive and overpowering.

That's a Jungian reading of it, at least. Walt is obviously not just concerned for his family's well-being after he's dead. Walt is trying to transform himself into what he would've been in a non-modern, pre-civilizational context. He is trying to become what nature has evolved him to be.

Haha. You know even if you try to be polite about it somewhat its very apparent youre pissed off. Well i aint the only one who hates her, most of the people in this thread do. BTW, it's FICTION. Did you forget that? Just because i know she is fake, I cant stand her attitude and manners. And no, i dont have issues with women. I have issues with superficial self righteous females who think of themselves higher then everyone. If i were to compare with Breaking Bad, Andrea = Woman, and Skylar and marie = THe descrption is just gave you ^^.

And sorry, but for me its a lot more intersteting to watch the charcter of Walt for example. You seem him change completly,he goes from a high school teacher to cold blooded murderer who has more than 15 bodies on him and cooks Ice. Whereas with SKyler, its pretty much goes like that : Being annoying in general, Being suspicious, Kicking Walt out on Suspicion, Fucking her boss, Ratting Walt out to an attorney, Being even a bigger bitch to him when he comes back, realizing there is money to make, Being less of a bitch and trying to be in the middle of the operation while not knowing jackshit about it, Wanting out of the operation cuz she dont got the nerve to do it, Trying to scare everybody by making it seem like shes drwoning, and finally, go back to being the ''bitch mom'' like she very well says. FASCINATING, isnt it?

''She's a victim in this situation. It doesn't mean people can't think she's annoying or hate her but still be entirely empathetic and understanding to someone in a similar situation in real life. '' Exactly! WHile i do hate her, i still consider her a victim in some ways. Is TWD any good? I remeber trying to watch the first few episodes but i was very fucked up and never continued with the series. I only remember THe girl who plays Sara in Prison break plays in it i think. I know the word cunt makes all the women reading my posts hate me lol, but i cant find a better single word to describe Skyler. I think too some people are taking it waaaaaay too personal. Its a fictional show ....

Great description of Walter 's Character !

I strongly resent the implication that people who dislike Skyler have issues with women. We are fast approaching IMDB message board territory with statements like that.

Honestly, Skyler is just a mean, selfish, controlling, and vindictive individual, with no particularly charming or endearing traits to make up for it. I'm not sure if I can recall her ever going out of her way to do anything nice on the show. Meanwhile Walt, Jesse, Hank, Marie, and even Gus and Mike, have all done some good in their world, despite the fact that all the bad acts they have committed strongly outpace the good ones. At least we have known at certain points in time that good intentions are occasionally present in these other characters. We get none of that with Skyler, even if the sum total of evil acts she has committed pale in comparison to those committed by just about everyone else besides Marie.

Additionally, it doesn't help that she is prone to episodes of righteous indignation, and then quick to turn hypocrite when placed in a similar position.

I understand her position and I empathize with it somewhat, but at the same time, she is such an unpleasant person that I often root for bad things to happen to her.

Once again, I think it comes back to producers, writers, and directors being unable to create women who are both strong and likable. In order to make her strong, they had to make her into the overbearing shrew who wears the pants in the family, as though there is no other possible strong female character to create, at least as far as the role of wife of the lead is concerned.

95land ...Oh no worries dear, I would never let those opinions affect me personally or get upset because it is a TV show. For those that are voicing such strong words in regards to the female characters, it is offensive to constantly hear the word "cunt" which makes even me cringe in real life. But to hear it on the internet I usually let go in one ear and out the other and assume that people have not quite enough vocabulary within their grasp to find a better description.

Anyone see the pilot for the new show The Writers Room? I watched it online the other day and the first episode was all about Breaking Bad, interviews with the creator, writers, and Cranston. It was really cool. Definitely check it out if you're a fan of the show.

Good to hear. :-). It wasn't my intent to imply that you were taking the argument too personal.
I used the up arrow more as a indicator towards the handful of posts that were directed at Purple Kush.

When I think about the word "cunt" it reminds me of something Howard Stern said about the N-word.
He basically said that that word is so loaded with bad history, so reviled, and causes so much anger when spoken it can actually start fires.
I feel the same way about the C-word. Not saying I don't ever use it. I just feel like there's other adjectives that can be used.
I don't wanna be the grammar/bad word police, though. So, I'm gonna shut up about it.

@Purple Kush-The Walking Dead is a peaks and valleys type of show. Spectacular for a stretch of episodes, awful for a few. And so on.
Definitely worth watching. Start with season 1 and you'll get pulled in. I will say I'm gonna be a little frightened to hear your opinions of Lori and Andrea. ;-).

My intent wasn't to be hostile. In fact, you're the one who first took offense to the points I was making in Skyler's favor. And yes, I'm very aware that this is a fictional show, hence me putting (albeit fictional) in my comment. I've just read far too many aggressive comments like yours on IMDB on the subject and your favorite choice words always seem to be bitch and cunt. Pissed off is a little strong. I prefer the term irritated. After all, this is a tv show character we're talking about. It's not like you're talking about my mom. :D

I call an immediate truce and suggest we start fresh. After all, I don't know you personally. So it's unfair for me to make assumptions about you based on a few comments made in this thread.

No worries,i wasnt the politest person either. It is foolish to fight over a fictional charcter lol.

Im def going to give it a watch,. im watching that shit series True Blood right now. I dotn get why, not my style. Half the episode are awful cheesiness. I just like the suspense moment. But the special effects could be alot better. And The girl who plays lori is like marked in my head as Sarah Tancredi from Prison break. I liked her in rpison break, she didnt annoy me at all. If you have seen it the one female i hated was Gretchen Morgan, played by Jodi lyn o keefe. And the reason is she actually is a ver ybad acctress. But she does a good job playing an evil psychopatic bitch who is disgusting in every way. Why? because its just apparent that she is playing herself. Lol. I liked prison break tbh. Its one of my fav series. Favorite one being The wire though.
No, keep going.
lol

Qft. This is very well put and I just wanted to recognize it. I appreciate this buddy.

Sorry to jump in on this when the original issue is all but resolved, but I needed to address this. I assume you are referencing Not Frank's comments in the above. I'm pretty sure he wasn't implicating dislike for Skyler equated to problems w/ women; he was inferring purpkush had this problem. I didn't get that he was making a general correlation. Sorry to dig this up when it was already buried earlier today, but I think this resentment is inappropriately placed in this instance :\
