Television Breaking Bad

the first two seasons of dexter were actually pretty good. after that though, wow, did the show take a dive. for some mysterious reason i still watch it, but goddamn. breaking bad is one of the best and most consistently great written shows i've ever had the pleasure of watching.

in my opinion even the hallowed Wire took a serious nosedive in its final season. What great recent show has gone out with a bang instead of a whimper?

How will the final season of BB rate?

How will the final season of BB rate?

I'm pretty sure that BB's writers and creators will rise to the occasion.
They are very passionate about their show in relation to TV in general.
They go the extra mile for authenticity, eg After the disassembling of the kids motorcycle we see Todd moving sand around and we see the kid's hand. That shot was real, they had the kid (actor) pose for that.
Also when Walter burns through the "zip tie" it was real "arcing wires" - no special effects, ok in that scene the hand was fake and they added a bit more voltage, but that was it.
Their research is top notch (water to methylamine ratio and density as an example).
So I think that BB will "keep it real" in more ways than one.

When I was thinking about how the series has only covered a little over a years time, I was thinking about Jesse's transformation. I know that most people focus on the Walter White / Heisenberg transformation, so Jesse's likely goes overlooked by many.

He started off the show as a tweaked out, careless, stupid guy with horrible ideas, and a lack of common sense. Now he is clean, more caring, less of a liability, and actually has good ideas to contribute to the group. I'm not sure if it [Jesse getting a lot better since quitting meth] is meant to show how bad meth is for you as a way to limit any glorification of it from the show, or if maybe he's just picking up on some of Walt's traits that were good since Walt has basically been his mentor over the past year.

^ I was going to say it's like they have swapped roles, but I had a few conflicting thoughts on it. If I remember them I will post them.

yeah, It may be Todds and possible more than just Todds downfall, who knows, have to wait and see I guess.

So the spider turns out to be radioactive and grows 50 times its normal size. It eats everything in it's path to New Hampshire, where Walt finally kills it with the machine gun in his trunk. Oh, and Walt Jr. dies in the process. And Marie wears something purple. Sorry for ruining the season finale guys.

oh, you artsy fucks. and here I just thought the jar "symbolized" a loose end with fingerprints of the kid they just tried to make disappear.

Well they wouldn't have anything to match the prints on the jar to since the kid has been dissolved in acid. When I first saw the scene with Todd holding the jar I was thinking it could get him caught, but then I thought about how unlikely it is that the kid has been fingerprinted, and plus why would the jar ever be dusted for prints? Also "no body, no crime" which I'm sure Saul would use as his defense.

Yeah!

Maybe they (cops/dea) can trace the spider back to the scene of the crime, or roundabouts somehow? I dont know how they are going to tie it in, but it seems likely they will have some surprise with it in store for us. Maybe it bites skyler on the nose? Who knows.

But to finish out the plot line I just have to know...did Marie steal the purple clothing?! Or was she finally able to quit?

Yup thats the first thing I thought. Maybe the family knows the kid liked to go out in the desert and collect spiders and at some point the police or DEA will find the jar and print it. Todd doesnt seem like he would stand up to the heat and would sell out in a heartbeat to save his own ass. I kinda wish they executed him and gave the "la guisa" treatment. dissolving the body in a 55gal drum like they have done with so many other things in the past.

edit to tb's post- they could easily find prints from the kid around his parents house easily. im sure he has a video game controller or something like that, shit or even a computer with a keyboard. its a long shot but so far the series has taken a ton of them.

and what happened with lydia? did she buy her way out with scoring the methylamine for them?

Cant wait to see walters plan on getting mike and jesse their 5 million and being able to keep his 333gallons to synth with. i woudnt be surprised if it included todd somehow and that leads them to getting busted, sending walter on the run, thus needing an m60 full auto heavy barrel machine gun. a gun like that can put one of those 7.62x51 rounds through both sides of a car like a 22 through a soda can, so he obviously has a need for some serious fire power. plus you see he has 2 ammo cases in the back that each hold 500rds if im not mistaken.

ahhhh!! i cant wait lol.

I think Todd is creepy. After melting the kids bike in a barrell of acid and then putting the kid in a barrell, Todd shrugs it off as "Shit happens." That's pretty fucked up.

This Todd guy is likely my least favorite character on the show, lower than Flynn.

The way the kid just stopped, waved, and Todd was the first to wave back. Up to that point I thought Todd was the nicest, most innocent one of the group and as soon as I saw him move his hands towards his back my jaw dropped. Even Walt looked like he was going to say Hi and talk to the kid about working for the railway or some such. That was hands down the saddest killing on TV I've ever seen, that kid was so innocent and didn't seem like a blabbermouth talker type liability.

Depends how far away the car is and whether they're AP rounds or just plain M80 ball 147gr. FMJ. The long, heavy barrel does give the round a bit more energy than a plain M14, but the cartridge is the biggest factor. I'd have more confidence if he had a .50 BMG. OTOH if the range isn't over 1000 yards the 7.62 does just fine for shredding bodies and allows for many more rounds to be carried.

I hope we actually get a more detailed look at Walt's arsenal. I too look forward to seeing it go into use.

I also hope Todd gets executed and Walt initiates Jr. into the family business. That kid seriously needs some drugs and violence.

It's not going to be for a long time until we find out and this part of the discussion will likely be several pages back at that point, but do you guys think all the main characters are going to survive the series or do you think someone will die? Might be fun to make some predictions since there are only 10 episodes left.

For some reason I feel like Walter will survive, alone and miserable, albeit rather rich (as in $$$cha-ching$$$, not rich in spirit). I think Jesse will end up getting killed, likely because of something Walt does since Walt seems to have overall had a negative impact on Jesse's life. I also think Skylar may get killed. There was some discussion a little while ago on here about what happened to the ricin cigarette and how Walt put it in the house. Maybe Skylar will accidentally smoke that cigarette and get ricin poisoning (unless it wouldn't work if smoked). I think Hank will finally find out Walt has been Heisenberg this whole time, but Walt will be on the run at that point. Plus Hank is in a pickle since it's his brother in law and his PT was paid for with blue meth money, so he may delay taking Walt down long enough for Walt to get away.

With that being said, I have no clue who the gun is intended to be used upon. One possibility I was thinking was that Walt may end up getting killed trying to have a stand off with the DEA. That's mainly because of a scene a few episodes ago (I believe it's the last time Walt, Skylar, and Walt Jr. are all together before Skylar goes into the pool). There's a scene where Skylar wakes up to gunshots and walks out into the living room where Walt and Walt Jr. are watching the end of Scarface. Walt laughs and says "Everyone dies in this movie" while Skylar looks terrified of the violence she's seeing in the movie. Say hello to my little friend!

Agreed. I can't figure out Todd, which I think is what bothers me. I also had the same reaction to the kid getting killed. I actually laughed when Todd first waved back. Then I was just left stunned when he suddenly shot him.

all the Todd hatred should be tempered by the fact that Jesse Plemons is a great actor. Plus, Todd seems like he would've fit right into the Gus Fring organization. He's poker-faced and silentious just like Victor and Tyrus. I think that is an endearing trait. I appreciate the Todd character and certainly hope he gets more screen time than at least Marie, if not Skylar.
