Television Breaking Bad

Jesse: Are we in the meth business, or the money business?
Walt: Neither. I'm in the empire business.

That was in the preview for next weeks episode and I thought it sounded pretty badass.

^
I did too.

I admittedly don't really know what that means/entails though. Or how he would determine success. At least when he was just trying for money he initially had a dollar figure.

Even Jesse's question is kind of confusing. I don't know what the money business entails or how it's separate from the meth business.

Well right before that part of the preview they showed Mike having the DEA trailing him and him saying that he's out, and considering that he is the business [money] part of the operation, that would leave a gap in the operation. This could mean that Walt and Jesse may need to fill the void by taking care of both production and sales of the meth, putting them in the money and meth business. I know that they are really both the money business, but Mike had them separated.

However, I really don't see Mike leaving just like that. After all, he was the one that was saying that they would cook meth from pseudoephedrine pills if need be so that they could continue to pay off the other people to keep them quiet. Also, Jesse and Walt have been able to change his mind several times lately, so I don't see him leaving that easily without them thinking of a way that he can still handle the business without getting busted.

Another way that I interpreted that line is that it may have come up while discussing how Todd killed the boy, and in the meth business that wouldn't fly, but if they were alright with it then that would make them out to be straight up criminals in the money business.

I didn't find it odd that Todd had a piece. Train heists are dangerous. Imagine being the train engineer carrying cargo worth that much in the middle of nowhere for the most part and not having some form of protection. Truckers almost all carry (if allowed) and they're usually hauling things worth considerably less. Also, Todd knew that all the other crew members were going to be carrying. Why wouldn't you have a gun?

I don't know the spider symbolism or if it exists at all. It's definitely not a 'web' symbol because tarantulas don't make webs. They just use the silk to coat the walls of their creepy burrows. You guys are probably right it's just a 'caught in the wrong place/wrong time' thing.

I'm really enjoying the introduction of Lydia. She's a good actress and adds interesting dynamics.

I think the fact that they use tracks for some of the dramatic scenes is mostly just an homage to the fact that this is basically a Western. All the best shit happens near trains in classic Westerns. =D

Great episode. The suspense was fantastic.

Edit: Even if there wasn't any Saul in this one. ;)

When Jesse was in Mexico with Gus, Mike, and they were with the Cartel at the afterparty it looked as though Gus had spiked the highly expensive Tequila with Ricin he gave to the Mexican cartel leader that the cartel leader, Gus, and everyone else but Mike and Jesse. ALL of the cartel members died; but Gus it seemed had taken an antidode or something before drinking the tequila, and he got medical attention immediatley afterward.[/NSFW]

It most likely was not ricin. They established early on that ricin takes days to kill and would look like a heart attack or fever. The cartel died in minutes. Another theory was that Gus had taken charcoal pills to soak up whatever poison it was and then purged as soon as he could.

Here's an interesting Trivia note...
Bill Bur - (A stand-up comedian) who was the truck driver in this episode was also the fake EPA agent that Saul sent in to get the Car Wash dude to sell his business and he was also part of the two man "Team", who Saul sent in to get Ted to sign the IRS cheque.

Bill Burr is super talented, the fact that he doesn't act at all like his on-stage persona just shows how much range he really has. I'd definitely love to see him in more movies or GOOD shows (like anything AMC does....I'm having a hard time thinking of any other remotely decent channels these days).

Yeah, I was on to the dude since Chapelle's show.

This provided me with my laughs for the day:

i finally got around to watching it yesterday. shit shocked me all the more because i had noticed their incorporation of the blonde guy since walter asked him what his name was, and i was hoping he wouldn't be killed on the train. (obvs not as much as i cared about my wigger boyfriend, jesse) i thought maybe that would be the purpose of his role.

Lovin' the return of Breaking Bad! I cannot even begin to anticipate Walt's final destruction. Yes, this season is already blowing me away.

Second best show on television (The Wire still holds first place for me).
