Television Breaking Bad

wanted to also mention that so far into season 3(episode 4) i believe that the first 2 seasons were much better. Who knows though im hoping that things pick up a little....i have a feeling that the next episode is going to rev up the excitment a bit.

his formula

1) Jesse knows Walts 'formula'. There aren't that many ways to cook.

2) Amphetamines aren't difficult to manufacture. Especially if you have laboratory grade equipment.

3) Gustavo told Walt that he would provide expert help. If he already has access to these experts, then why would it be so important to him to employ a high school teacher?

If Jesse (an uneducated junkie) is capable of making almost as good a product as Walt, then surely anyone with a reasonable grasp of chemistry would be able to do the same - wouldn't you think?

Couldn't they basically hire anyone with a science degree?

It doesn't make any sense to me.

They're going to an enormous amount of effort to keep him on as a cook and he's a huge risk, given Skylar, Hank and the Mexican twins.

As the plot goes on, it's becoming too complicated to keep it believable.

Basically for the show to exist, Walt needs to keep cooking. Now he has no motivation to do so, so they create a flimsy series of events and compromise his character severely.

Yes, the whole idea that they need Walt because of his "formula" is a bunch of BS. But, IT'S FICTION!!

In fact even if you produce shabby 80% methamphetamine out of the reaction, all you have to do is run more purification steps. It has nothing to do with the route of synthesis. If you want higher purity product just run extra purification steps; simple as that.

This show is about the people and the social dynamics. Leave the physics of meth production out of it.

Jesse can physically copy Walt's method, but Walt holds "copyright" over it and will go after Jesse if he does copy it. In fact it was obvious that Jesse is determined to keep cooking the formula; I see a battle between the two of them in the future.

About this thread. If people aren't caught up to the last episode I think they should just stay out of here, otherwise every single post is going to be in NFSW tags.

Walt blew up a building with mercury fulminate, I don't think they're aiming for realism.

Suspension of disbelief only goes so far. When the unrealistic elements of the show are a result of the writers having cornered themselves, then it's a problem. Walt blowing up that building didn't bother me. I just think they're going way too far with the whole 'formula' bullshit. It made sense or was at least believable to some extent when he was dealing with junkie street dealers/distributors like Tuco. But with Gustavo it's just stupid.

This show is about the people and the social dynamics. Leave the physics of meth production out of it.

The show revolves around cooking so they should make an effort and do some research. They could achieve realism and character development simultaneously. Gustavo holding off Mexican assassins who are out for revenge, in order to keep an extremely risky meth cook in his employment doesn't make any sense in terms of people either. But then, the show in general doesn't make any sense now that Walt no longer has any reason for cooking.

The "a man provides" speech by Gustavo in the lab didn't make it believable. In fact, like a lot of the dialogue from the third season, it was a really ridiculous conversation.

^Assuming you even know who Gustav really is. :)

What a great episode. This most recent one was probably my favorite.

NSFW:
Anyone notice how when Sal had his secretary call from his own cell phone? I have a feeling everyone is going to live to regret that, no matter how big or small.

Amazing episode!

^ Yeah I think Hank is going to be driven to trace the source of the false emergency. They're also likely going to look up the records of Jesse's phone; on which they'll find an incoming call (Walt's cell phone call where he hungup) right after Hank called Walt.

Why is everyone so sure the cellphone Saul had his secretary use was his? It was probably a go phone, I bet he has them lying around.

I highly doubt he would call from his own from, then snap it in half. He's not a genius, but he is a lawyer. C'mon people. Latest episode was great, love how Gustav pretty much handed the DEA over to spare Walt. Going good and avoiding anything corny imo.

Now that that guy from Flight of the Concords knows how to make Walt's meth I think hes screwed.

dayum. gus is ruthless,
NSFW:
once walt finishes his 3 months tuco's cousins will go after him but now he gave the cousins the green light on hank to feed their hunger for revenge. shit if, and thats a big if... i don't know if they would kill off a character like hank but that would really shake things up and seriously fuck with walt and the entire family.
shit just got real or should i say realer

In my opinion Breaking Bad really is the best show on television. I dont think I have ever seen a better series on television actually. Its well done and every show continues to capture my interest....Yeah, some of the foreshadowing was a little cheesy....the plane blowing up right over his house seems slightly far fetched, unless you believe in Santaria. Still, I have never been so entertained by a TV show as this.

btw, when is the cutoff point for spoilers? Is it just the last episode thats protected or do I have to block commentary even as far back as season 1?

^ you dont really have to block off anything. some people want to walk through this thread and not see any spoliers. I think thats a naive attitude, seeing how the topic is the show. If you would like to appease the silent masses just use 'NSFW' tags and put whatever you want in those.

In a thread about Breaking Bad, I'm going to discuss the show. If you haven't seen it, you should get on that probably before you read all the posts. And I feel that this is currently the most compelling drama on cable tv. I wonder how Showtime or HBO would have handled a series like this. Premium televison has a knack for pushing the envelope, just a passing thought.

hmm i don't think that is necessary. shit i didn't hide spoilers for last week. kind of a given i suppose on another forum it goes without saying the latest episode is going to be commented on.

Q&A - Bob Odenkirk (Saul Goodman)
Q: What will you say if people do start asking you for legal advice?

A: Don't ask me! Don't ask me, and don't ask Saul Goodman, if you're smart. I hope they don't ask me for fashion advice either. But I'd just say, "Make sure it clashes. Lots of patterns are good. Patterns on top of patterns are good. And neon is your friend."

I feel the same way....I dont want to step on any toes, but I do sort of agree that its difficult to talk about the show without actually talking about the show.....I mean...if you have some kind of secret knowledge, like you found some pirated scenes for next week or part of a script that nobody had had a chance to see yet...sure, use NSFW...Otherwise you should pretty much expect people to talk about whats happening in the show in a conversation about the show. That makes sense, right?
