Brazillian waxing

She's really really really good! Very fast, misses very few hairs, and the pain is not bad at all. She uses a new kind of wax that sticks to the skin way less so it is way less painful than traditional wax, and less risk of bruising. She also does massage and skin care. She's really nice and personable, and she makes the atmosphere totally relaxed. She rawks! :D

That is true that there are usually three hairs per follicle. If you have a look when the hair starts growing back, you should see each one come at a different length. I've been waxing for nearly three years and even though the hairs come back finer now, they still seem to have the three hairs growing at a different pace. Waxing over a long period will definitely cause damage to the follicle, making some hairs easier to pull out and some may not grow back at all, but to kill the follicle, you'd really need to look into laser/electrolysis.

I wish I'd seen this a few days ago!

I'm going to someone new tomorrow night. An actual Brazilian salon, run by Brazilians. If it sucks, I will definitely take you up on that. It's on my way home from work - I went into the salon to check them out, the salon was spotless, everyone was friendly and professional, price is a little higher than what I was paying before but my other salon is really inconvenient to get to.

Provided I am comfortable I will ask about the follicles - but when I was waxed regularly, the hair grew back so much thinner and more sparse, yet sometimes more than one would pop out of the same follicle. I just kept up with that with plucking and witch hazel so I didn't get ingrowns, but after the first couple times there was some maintenance involved.

I do want laser hair removal someday, but it's way out of the budget for now and I can't even imagine what THAT pain must be like. 8(
 
I'd love to do the laser for just the basic bikini wax area. I'd continue to get a brazilian for the rest, at least in the summer, but it would make those lazy times when you're not waxing or anything so much more tolerable.

It takes 30 min, max, when I get mine done. I have no idea how it could possibly take 5 min and I'd guess the girl who says it really only takes that long either isn't getting a brazilian (a brazilian and a straight bikini wax are not the same thing) or is seriously underestimating the time.

While I was looking for a good waxer, I had two pretty bad waxes. The girl I use now uses two kinds of wax, the kind you pull off with strips of fabric for the tougher areas and a more tacky wax that you just let dry and pull off. That makes a big difference in pain. I don't find it really that unsettling at all anymore.
 
^The horrible one I had the other day was all strip wax and only took ten minutes (and yes it was the full brazilian). She did two big strips for the top, two for the inside, then a few smaller ones for the middle and arse bits.
The bead stuff is definately the way to go. It might take longer but is much much less painful.
 
Well, I'm not in that much pain... and wasn't. Ibuprofen and Klonopin helped. :) I almost fell asleep on the table.

The new chick was SLOW. The wax wasn't gripping my hair at first (it's not that thick, but I had let it grow out a bunch) and that kinda sucked. The whole thing took 45 minutes.

She did a good job and I am not even that red, but @lterego, I think I will ask you for that referral. Even the manager remarked that she was thorough but a little slow lol. Nice work overall, though. The bf is happy. :)

I have a girlfriend who just finished her laser treatments. It took 16 months for a brazilian. She said the pain is no worse than a wax. Very tolerable. Think snapping rubber bands to flesh.
 
Im overdue! I have not had one since April 12th haha, way too long. Im going tomorrow :)

It will be my third one and I love it. I love how the hair grows back so thin and sparse, and if I had been shaving and waited this 5-6 weeks I would never have dealt with it well whereas because it has been waxed its so easy!
 
it isnt a bush though hehe. if it were id have hurried up.
 
you know the at home waxing kits...well they give a tube of cream to rub on before you wax to numb you up, can i put that stuff on and get it professionally waxed? I assume so but just thought i would throw it out there and get an opinion :)

yeah, aestheticians usually rub a numbing lotion on your skin before they start waxing. i'm 99% sure most places do this. sometimes it's these little wipe things instead of actual cream - they will let you know exactly what they are doing if they're any good. if your salon doesn't do it normally, just ask for it. obviously the less sensitivity, the better.
 
yea the place I go does not do this..but i have the cream at home from an at home waxing kit J tried...do you think its ok if i just put it on before i head down the street to go? :)
 
it's probably fine, but if it were me i would ask first. the type of cream might make it so their wax doesn't stick properly or something. i know at my salon they are pretty particular about the products they recommend and are rather vocal about certain treatments that they think suck (for ingrown hairs and things like that). it wouldn't hurt to just call and double check, but i think a numbing agent is a damn good idea :)
 
^lol... let's try not to be a perv in a thread about intimate grooming :D ;)

I have NEVER had the numbing stuff (I wish!). @lterego, I will be getting that salon's name from you next time I see you. :) I'm not burnt or bruised and what minimal growth I have is growing normally, but I'm pretty sure what I went through with the last salon is some people's idea of torture.

DG - Taking 2 ibuprofens and (if you have it) a very small dose of a benzo is the best thing you can do, IMO. The small benzo dose keeps me from getting jumpy.

Aftercare with a rub of witch hazel on a cotton ball or toilet paper followed by the same aloe stuff I use on my sunburn (lol) is keeping me happy.
