Brad Pitt chatted with Bill Maher on Friday night about his pro-gay marriage, anti-religion, and pro-marijuana agenda.

"What is it about religion you don't like?" Maher inquired

"You know, I grew up in a religious family, in a religious community and it just doesn't make sense to me. It just doesn't work for me in the long run," Pitt said. "I never wanted to step on anyone else's religion and their beliefs -- that's what's great about our country -- until I started seeing it defining policy. ... Like gay marriage, you have a group of people telling other people how to live their lives, and you can't do that."

Pitt went on to say, "I just say you have to, you really have to check what country you're living in because the freedom that allows you to practice religion is the same freedom you're stepping on. That's not right. And I want to add that if there was a nation of gay married couples who were telling you you couldn't practice your religion, I'd be speaking up for you too. So, let's stop the nonsense."

He also discussed his pothead past with Maher, who recalled being at a party with Pitt when he rolled joint after perfect joint -- all night long.

"I'm an artist," he said, of his joint rolling. But he's quit smoking, explaining that it turns him "into a doughnut."

"I'm a dad now.You want to be alert," Pitt said.

Never knew he smoked.

I had read somewher a while ago that apparently he smoked. It is a shame big celebrities like Brad Pitt who smoke dope don't do more for the legalization movement.

has anyone here seen the movie "True Romance". he is a big pothead in that movie lol. i know that doesn't necessarily reflect on his real life though.

It was well documented that he and Clooney loved to go to A-dam and smoke up. What he said though is great. Unfortunatley in America more people listen to celebrities opinions than anything else, so hopefully this article sparked a few conservative peoples minds.

^With all due respect, I think you might be a little out of touch with the conservative mind. Very few conservatives are going to start listening to an ex-pothead liberal actor because he declared to BILL MAHAR that he's going to quit weed. I don't know many conservatives that would ever even consider watching Bill Mahar.

^You took conservative to the extreme, I was more speaking about regular people who practice celebrity worhip so to speak. Oh and I wasn't refering to his weed coments I was referingto the telling others how to live their lives is wrong and comments. Of course people that have their mind made up won't change it because brad Pitt said something.

Since you brought up bill mahr and it's barely on subject I just saw religulous(his documentary) it kinda drives home the point that ppl that beleive in something strongly rarely change their mind(unless it's for Jesus ;)), you should check it out if you haven't seen it.

I almost rented that a few times put passed for one reason or another. But since you recommend it, I might just watch it tonight.

Yeah right, I'll believe it when I see it. To me it sounds like he just stopped smoking when his kid is around, which is smart, but if you look at how Tarantino got him to sign up for Inglorious Bastards (5 bottles of wine and smoking weed out of a pop can) it doesn't add up. Of course you don't want to be a complete pothead if you have a child. He has to still smoke when the babysitter has the kiddo or something though. :D
