A 6-year-old New Jersey boy who was killed by an intruder high on PCP-laced marijuana was killed trying to save his sister, coming to her aid as she was being assaulted on the floor, prosecutors said.

Thirty-one-year-old Osvaldo Rivera, who is charged in Sunday's (local time) middle-of-the-night attack, sobbed during an appearance Tuesday in court in which bail was set at US$5 million.

During an interrogation, Rivera had asked: "How bad did I hurt them?" assistant prosecutor Christine Shah said during the hearing.

The attack early Sunday was the second time in less than two weeks that prosecutors say a Camden resident apparently high on PCP had killed a child.

On August 22, a Camden woman killed her 2-year-old son, called 911 to admit stabbing the child, then killed herself.

Authorities said they are going to test PCP on the street to see what might be behind the outbursts of violence.

The drug can make users hallucinatory and incoherent, police said.

Rivera admitted he smoked "wet," a combination of marijuana and PCP, before the killing, police said.

In the decapitation case, authorities said that preliminary tests showed the woman had PCP in her system and that they believed she had also smoked wet.

New details in the more recent attack were revealed after authorities were able on Tuesday to interview the girl, 12, whose windpipe had been slashed but whose condition was upgraded from critical to stable.

She ran out of the house and sought help after her brother intervened.

Both children had been sleeping downstairs when the assault began, police said.

The girl also said she had been raped by the attacker, Shah said at the court hearing.

Rivera, who did not enter a plea, is charged with murder and attempted murder, but prosecutors said more charges will be filed.

Authorities said he had a drug arrest in 2009 but no other convictions. He did not yet have an attorney Tuesday.

The Associated Press is not naming the slain 6-year-old to avoid identifying his sister, who says she is a victim of sexual assault.

The 12-year-old was able to help police track down the attacker by identifying him as what sounded like "Poppy."

Investigators learned Rivera was known by the nickname "Popeye" and had spent nights at an apartment in the area of the city.

Police found him hiding between a mattress and bedroom wall in the apartment.

They said they also found blood-stained sneakers that matched bloody footprints in the home where the children were assaulted.

Ugh, I really hate PCP stories. Makes me feel sad for PCP and the demonizing done to it. People need to be extra careful when it comes to any substance with potential for psychotic episodes or symptoms to help prevent this. I started to get worried about MXE after trying it as well as reading the countless stories of people experiencing mania and psychotic symptoms from it. Stimulating NMDA-antagonist or various stimulants can be dangerous in other ways then physiological issues

Some people will probably blame the pcp and even the marijuana unfortunately, i always hate these kind of articles too, even the people who went nuts on bath salts, when there are so many more people who use the drugs responsibly and dont kill or rape or hurt anyone on them. The guy might have had underlying mental issues or something who knows. :(

Even if he never would have done this sober, I have no sympathy for the guy. Being high on chemical x is no excuse to go around doing horrible stuff like this. At the end of the day he did it, the pcp didn't jump out the bag into his body, and it sure as hell didn't kill that kid.

Who cares...! Kids are dead. This site seems completely against demonizing any drug no matter the situation. I am sorry but there is obviously a link between psychotic violent outbursts and the use of PCP. Can anyone deny that? NO!

Yes bluelight, of course if PCP was legal and regulated people would know what they are getting. Does anyone suspect that this would still RAISE the amounts of PCP stories like this that we are hearing. I am all for 'cross-the-board' drug legalization, but at the same time I KNOW that the decade that follows this blanket legalization will be a very fucked up one.

I always hear legalists say that most teenagers say it is harder to find alcohol than most drugs. Fair enough, I could get coke, oxy, speed, weed, mushrooms, E, ketamine and a plethora of RC's outback of my high school. This was 7+ years ago! It was also incredibly easy for me to get alcohol. Anytime I wanted it, I would just ask some people at school if they plan to get a bottle, if so, I give them my money and meet them later for my liquor. Young people are STILL caught/arrested drinking underage and in public than kids smoking joints (that has a smell that can permeate a city block)

Does bluelight believe that in more rural areas (the majority of north america) that kids will abstain from legalized drugs because they are regulated and readily available? FUCK NO! Look at the UK with their RC problems. Kids dont give a fuck and they always find a way to get what they want.

Say I had tried PCP when I was younger and enjoyed it. Personally, I have not seen or heard of that drug around me in YEEEAAARS. I couldn't find it if I worked my ass off trying. Though with regulation, myself and all the highschool kids would immediately have access to it.

Just because things are regulated does not take out the black market. In school I was able to get $40 bottle of smirnof vodka (Did anyone catch that price break?) I knew people who paid rent by going to the high school everyday, collecting money and buying several bottles for the punk rock crowd.

I personally had a friend with a fake ID. I watch him make $300 in a lunch break at school selling cigarettes that he bought by the carton.

2 Days ago I was out hiking with some friends, really deep into the woods and my buddy crouched down and said "shut the fuck up!!" We all got down and peered through the trees to an old (but very large) wood cabin that was very deteriorated. What did we smell? Rotting corn... What did we see? A massive stil operation with a 100foot chimney attachment... These fuckers were jugging moonshine and alcohol has been readily available and legal for decades!

Does this take the violence out of it? No... because as we quickly sped off out of possible biker territory we heard shotgun blasts warning us not to EVER come back that way.

The drug trade will always be bad, like I was saying, I am all for legalization. I am just positive that if it happens, there will be 1000's of parents with dead kids pleading to have the laws over turned. I say let the chips fall where they may, but, things would still be bad, there would still be guns and murdered and overdoses.... It is hard not to sound like a hypocrite right now... hopefully people see where I'm coming from.

Doctor_Ew who are you attempting to argue with? No one is trying to defend anyone who harmed another individual, nor is anyone thinking any sort of negativity to the victims.

What you are describing is a total lack of regulation if highschool kids would immediately have access to PCP. Prohibition works well to suppress oddball drugs that hardly anyone is in to, for as long as no one is really into them. Beyond a critical mass it becomes a farce and the drug becomes as available as if it weren't regulated at all.

I would say PCP is below that critical mass and so quite well suppressed.

This is my personal opinion on how the availability of certain drugs are affect by prohibition:
Suppressed: PCP, LSD, shrooms, mescaline
Transparent: cannabis, MDMA, cocaine
Enhanced: heroin, methamphetamine, crack cocaine, alcohol

All the drugs are made more harmful by prohibition because they contain random materials and dosages.

In a regulated market, less harmful drugs would be more easily available than more harmful drugs. If PCP were regulated, perhaps it could only be supplied and taken under supervision, in a "psychedelic drug club", where there would be trained staff to oversee the trip.

I would think that most people would respect the need to take unpredictable drugs away from the public plus there would be a load of more predictable drugs they could take as alternatives.

You do realize that people are buying massive amounts of untested chemicals of which they dont know the name??!! I wrote what I wrote because whenever someone kills someone while on PCP there are a few people on bluelight who blame prohibition and treat PCP as a benign drug. It is not.

I don't know what to tell you man, alcohol is legal and regulated much like drugs would be if they were legalized. If my small rural town who has never seen PCP heard that since it is now legal, they are selling it in fancy foil packs to 21+ customers, they would find some 21 year old and buy some PCP regardless of what they know about the drug, they are fucking kids, they are dumb. Prohibition has kept PCP away from my neck of the woods... I can't complain about that.

By the way, the first 3 replies said (poledriver included) said that the drug most likely isnt to blame, he probably would have done it anyway. PCP being demonized. PCP users normally dont rape/murder... That is why I replied the way I did.

Think of it this way. If there were not a global interest in furthering tobacco companies and the strangle hold they have on society, do you think tobacco would be sold every 100 yards in north america? Do you think we would be having the idea of smoking shoved down our throats 20 times on a short drive? No... probably not. If PCP were regulated, DealerX from the hood who currently sells PCP wouldn't be controlling shit, a huge company who doesnt actually care who uses their product would start selling it. Just like alcohol, there would be 30 different flavours of all these different drugs and they would be readily available... Like I said, there are charges, fines and sometimes even jail terms for supplying alcohol to minors. It happens EVERYDAY.

In my rural area, no one has the option to send an older person to go buy a bag of PCP for them. With regulation they would... I do not understand why that is so hard to understand. Again, I am all for legalization and regulation, just be prepared to be on the constant defense of that change in law because people who have never seen crack cocaine, PCP or heroin will be finding the remnants in their childrens bedrooms.
Of course, eventually people will come wise and realize, legal or not, the grass is greener on the sober side when it comes to those types of drugs. Still, the first few years would be a fear mongering propaganda parade like the current RC market is.

People can't pronounce the RC's.... everyone knows what PCP is and if they heard of school kids being able to buy it, they would be walking in circles, waving signs and chanting... Just you watch.

Christ have they run out of drug horror stories so much that they have to resort to demonizing PCP again? The one time i took PCP i couldn't have beaten a 5 year old girl in a fight if i had somehow wanted to do that. It made me totally non violent and unable to act on it in either case. And i have bipolar disorder so yeah PCP does not make people do this type of shit anymore then bath salts make you eat someones face.

Well thank you very much for relaying your personal experiences and considering them proof that a certain chemical can't cause violent psychosis. You are as ignorant as most of the authors of the articles I read on this site.

PCP didn't make me a crazy fuck and I'm bipolar = PCP doesn't cause violent outbursts. Are you serious!?

I have smoked PCP, I did NOTHING, I did projectile vomit at one point, but I was not violent. I have drank alcohol and hugged everyone around me and told them how awesome they are while the girl I drank with was waving a broken bottle in her family/friends faces half naked and verbally threatening them.

By your logic you could look at me specifically and say "oh, alcohol is wonderful, it only makes people happy loving balls of fuzzy feelings" ... Ignorance.

I can't imagine doing this on sherm. I'd go so far as to say it's about like alcohol in inducing violent behavior, maybe even less. Some can control themselves and others act like a fucking dumbass. IMO it might be the toxic PCC impurity that causes the problems associated with PCP.

The reason it seems everyone on PCP acts violent is that the vast majority of trips where you just space out isn't news worthy. I mean could you imagine if they did the same thing with alcohol,"The drug ethanol causes a brutal rape, murder," every time someone drunk does something violent or stupid. We know that most drinkers don't go killing and raping, but most haven't done PCP.

I was really shocked until I saw that it took place in Camden.

That place is practically post-apocalyptic.

PCP has a very strong propensity to trigger psychotic episodes and violent behavior, much more so than most other drugs. This is undeniably the case. Of course, not all users become psychotic under the influence, but many do. I would say that probably at least half the people who smoke the stuff will flip out in one way or another at some point. The risk of going psychotic is much greater on PCP than acid, mushrooms, or any of the classic psychs.

DoctorEw420 I completely agree with you. I don't know why people are worrying more about PCPs reputation than the fact that these completely innocent kids lost their lives for no reason other than some piece of shit drug addict taking them in such a brutal way. I've smoked a lot of PCP in my day, more than most dust heads even, and it can no doubt cause some bizarre, and occasionally violent behavior. I once saw two friends who had snorted some PCP hit each repeatedly with baseball bats because they couldn't physically feel the pain and they thought it was funny and one kid ended up with permanent back problems because of it. PCP is one hard drug and the stuff you find on street corners is dirty as hell. Take my word, it's not a good drug.

Doctorewe- Youre very certain that legalization would have specific effects on our population, and yet you dismiss someones anecdote as worthless and laughable. It seems like you (and there are a lot like you, too) believe that if the forbidden fruit is no longer forbidden, one will instantly gorge oneself on this fruit. I believe the opposite is probably true.

I don't agree with either of you but I really do want to in a way*.

I don't think PCP is at fault in this situation. He's just a lowlife individual who fucked up and deserves to pay for it. The PCP, in my opinion, almost definitely contributed to the violence but responsibility is the key when it comes to drug use. I've tripped alone a few times and have used dissociatives alone once or twice....I don't see that as responsible, here and now, but nothing bad ever happened and I did put planning into it. Obviously I should've used a sitter though.

Point of this post is to say it's not the PCP's fault and I, like many, hate when PCP comes up in the news.

* - What I mean by that is that I feel as though a lot of the users of this forum (unless I'm looking for specific information I tend to only read DiTM) automatically assume that every drug user, deep down inside their pretty little hearts, is a saint. And although that's definitely not what you said I do feel that it's along the lines of what you meant.

I remember an article about portable Naloxone devices in Canada (I think) that mentioned two or three people who had been saved from EMTs using them in the field. I'm all for harm reduction and I swear on my life, to god if you want, to whatever, that I do my letter writing for that kind of stuff. I try to be heard on those issues by my representatives and local officials.

But either way, the article was about portable Naloxone and just happened to mention three users who almost died. The first or second response was something like "Good! I can't wait to see what these great people go on to contribute to society".....That's not an exact quote but very close to it. Not saying they were bad people, they may have deserved beatification for all anybody on here knew, but that's a very common assumption that is made on this forum and it's obnoxious.

Yeah...that's all I got. Sorry to anybody who's butt is sore right now.
