Bought a spore syringe, injected it, and now my arm hurts and I'm not high.

old, I know, but

Might get better results if you try plugging.

Don't forget to sterilize the needle first, don't want to get an infection...

I wonder if this actualy ever really happened "yo man! you gotta see this! they sell some kind of shrooms in syringe,100% ready to be shot out of box!!"
well, there'a poster who once asked very seriously if if you took pictures while on psychedelics, the prints would look the same as what you saw when you shot them...

^ Lol :D

It is sad that I can't shot my visuals to look at them while sober...

I distinctly remember reading in one of my psychology magazines about how they've got a way to display written text to humans with their brains connected to a computer, that can then display on a monitor a crude version of the word(s) the human is seeing (in the correct font and everything). made me wish I could save my trip visuals for later ponification

Dunno about displaying text specifically but it is possible to send images of what your eyes can see to a monitor. Probably not with the added swirls though. I've definitely seen it done with animals (seen the world through a cat's eyes? yup) and I'm pretty sure it's been done with humans too. The images ain't that great so far but amazing it can be done at all even rather crudely.

Also, great thread JJ =D<3

I honestly did a double-take when I saw the title (would not surprise me if it was for real, to be honest) and then your name under it. Thought you'd been at the stupid pills again for a minute :D

Scroll to the bottom to see images ripped out of the visual cortex.

I'd very much like to know if psychedelics cause visual distortion in the primary cortex, as opposed to affecting downstream visual processing only. I'm pretty sure most cognitive neuroscientists would bet on the latter, but I have a hunch that the former is true.

^ Images aren't really impressive, though the article may be interisting. Sadly, I don't know probability theory.

Hmmm... the images I saw on the documentary I watched about it definitely look more impressive when moving. Still black and white and blocky but you can clearly make out what the subject is looking at. What was especially intriguing with the footage of when that technique was used on a cat was when it looked at human faces - they looked very catlike indeed. As if the cat automatically assumed faces were likely to look similar to what it was probably imprinted with at birth. Vaguely remember something along those lines from psychology class but was fascinating to see how very catlike it appeared to perceive human faces as.

^I guess humans tend to see human faces in everything....I mean, there are GENUINELY human faces in my carpet right now.

That's what I was thinking, Swirlo. Makes sense that you're likely to interpret faces as being of your own species. Or at least have a certain species bias. Really did look like the cat saw people as tall cats stood on two legs. Face was kinda mixed - recognisably human but definitely cat flavoured.

Enjoy the carpetfaces :)

EDIT:
Do cats have some sort of consicousness?
Recognizing "familiar"/"frinend" cats from "strangers" requires further image analysis, information processing, and, as a result, changing of cat's behaviour. This require conscious processes, IMO. Or not?

But, on the other hand, if cats have consciousness and able to recognize different cats, why they aren't self-aware?

That's the clip, Allium. Thanks - forgot the name of the doc it came from. Well worth watching the whole thing if you like that kinda stuff . Terence McKenna and a few other PD-friendly folks are in there somewhere too :)

Still looks distinctly cattish to me watching it again now. I presume the technology must be improving all the time so fascinating to see how much better it gets :)

^^ I just googled "cats visual cortex video" :) The documentary you linked is worth watching, and I am going to watch it in the future. But I looked through it, saw matrix-like 3D visualizations, scientists talking, etc. So if someone watch the whole video, please tell us about the most coolest moments, it'll be much appreciated!

Lol, this thread is gone too far from the original joke! :D

That video is messed up. I have a feeling that the cat's skull is open for an intracranial eeg or something, though. The human images are from fmri data which has a pretty low resolution, on the order of a couple mm I think.
