Botanical and Herbal board?

Should Bluelight have a dedicated Ethnobotany Discussion forum?

I think this forum needs a topical board for plants and herbs in general, separate from chem oriented boards.

It's a nice idea but a forum dedicated solely to plants probably wouldn't get enough traffic/interest to warrant it's existance.

Threads relating to plants and herbs used for medical/health/lifestyle purposes can be directed to Healthy Living. Threads relating to plants used for recreational substance purposes may belong in Cannabis Discussion or Psychedelic Drugs etc.

You know this forum and its members better than I do, but in my experience on other drug related boards, ethnobotany boards get huge amounts of traffic, definitely enough to warrant their existence. Herbal drugs including but not limited to the legal ones have quite a following. I think the board would get traffic, but then again I am not as familiar with this particular community.

Sure no problem :)
And I'll post a thread for discussion in the moderator's forum as well. I'll let you know the outcome.

I don't think it would get much traffic, but I'd like to see one. It would be great to trade ideas and tips with others on growing flowers, vegetables, and the like (I myself am [sort of] working on an herb garden and a couple of morning glory vines).

Where would I post about psychedelic mushrooms and why would I want to potentially divide the amount of people currently reading where that thread would go?

Another option might be to add botanicals to one of the existing boards, like Psychedelics and Ethnobotanicals, so it would be combining rather than dividing.

I do think an ethnobotanical forum would get traffic here. I also think that not many users of OD and BDD would have much interest in things like mulungu or lagochilis or the various pedicularis species. I would love an ethnobotanical forum which did not require "swimming" as the others I am on do...

Maybe this poll should be moved to PD or ODD where those more likely to be interested in it will see it...

Great idea egor :)
I'll move this over to PD, mods feel free to move it along to OD or elsewhere if/when you see fit.

I chose the third option; botanicals are already discussed a bit in PD at least....though not very much. I don't think theres any need to start a new forum.

I sugest you check out the shaman-australis forums, they also promote bluelight :)

Whats so bad about just using this one?

If it would get like 10 pages a day then it would be apparent that it has special attention. Meanwhile, kindly describe what extra features it would offer that would still fit into, well you know, the fact that this is a forum. :)

Coincedentally I re-christened the thread I mention less than a week ago to include "ethnobotany" even though its just practically a synonym.

I said no because it likely wouldn't get much traffic.

Also if your botanical is a depressant or stimulant, there's likely a thread in OD.

If your Botanical is a psychedelic; there's likely a thread on it in PD.

If it's an herbal supplement; there's likely something in HL. :)

exactly. i like the way bluelight is organized into categories of effects of drugs and not their origin. imho it doesn't matter if a drug is of plant or chemical origin, so why seperate them then?

Not all natural drugs are psychedelic, and it seems like the people who hang out on Psychedelics are more interested in the plant based drugs than the people who post on 'other drugs'. That is why I proposed the third option of adding ethnobotanicals to the Psychedelics board instead of creating a new forum. Natural drug posts dont get many replies in OD and many ethnobotanicals do not qualify as psychedelics.

Personally I am not satisfied with one long thread for every ethnobotanical. Its very sloppy and hard to read/search for relevant information. Its inconvenient. Sure it takes up less space, but if space was an issue then there must be enough traffic to warrant a new forum or else space wouldnt be an issue.

The 'Yes' votes are broken up into 2 categories, so by my count (11-24-09) it looks like it is split evenly down the middle as far as yes or no.

I think it would be just as well to add ethnobotanicals to psychedelics, but cramming every ethnobotanical into a single thread kind of sucks. If I want to learn about Kratom for example, trying to thumb through dozens of pages of irrelevant material to get to something useful just isnt that practical. Its better if they each have their own threads.

Just my opinion. Im a noob adding my 2 cents.
