Books about drugs?

Am I the only one who thinks that Huxley's writing is dry as hell? Don't get me wrong, I liked what he was saying, but I've found that trying to actually finish anything by him is excruciating at best.

Electric Kool Aid Acid Test, about The Merry Pranksters and Ken Kesey. Written by Tom Wolfe. He functioned as somewhat of an anthropolgist who just along for the ride, but didn't use LSD.

My favorite is Higher Wisdom, a book of interviews with the "elders" of psychedelia. Laura Huxley, Stan Grof, and Albert Hofmann are just a few of the interviewees. You really get a sense of each persons' philosophy on psychedelics. I also learned a lot more about the history of the legal use of psychedelics before prohibition in 1968. If there is anyone out there questioning the legitimacy of the psychedelic experience, THIS is the one book to read :)

I reckon Wolfe dosed. I mean, the book reads like an acid trip.

^I Believe he does, he takes the Kool-Aid, not knowing it is spiked with acid.

No, in the scene with the Kool-Aid he specifically mentions how Kesey announced that there were two batches, for kittens and tigers...or something along those lines, indicating knowledge of which batch was spiked.

The heroin diaries by Nikki Sixx.
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas by Hunter S. Thompson.
Hells Angels by Hunter S. Thompson.
Undercover by Damien Marrett.
White Lies by Damien Marrett.
Wired by Damien Marrett.
Mr. Nasty by Cameron White.
The Cocaine Wars by Paul Eddie.
The Electric Cool Aid Acid Test Book by ****** ****** can't remember that one cause another mate is borrowing it.
Underbelly and Leadbelly by John Silvester & Andrew Rule.
Diary of a Drug Fiend by Aleistar Crowley.
Pihkal and Thikal by Dr Alex Shulgin.

I own and have read all of these and recommend them all, I hope my children read them when I have them so they know what it was like in my time.

Pretty much all the classics have been listed already. Junky by William S. Burroughs is one of my favorites!

I must recommend Infinite Jest by David Foster Wallace. Its not ABOUT drugs but there is plenty of usage, and lots about AA actually if you are interested. Even if it had nothing to do with drugs I'd still recommend it because its my favorite book.

Terrence Mckenna - Food of The Gods (good book on the history of diffrent substances and the cultures they were used in)

Albert Hofmann - LSD: My problem child (talks about more then lsd if your into psychidellic indoles)

Huxley's The Doors of Perception (classic)

Scar Tissue by Anthony Kiedis is a great book, one of my favorites. I love music and just the culture that revolves around everything we do, so this book is really just interesting to read.

i was just at the book store yesterday and a book called psychedelics by peter stafford jumped out at me.

heres a link to the erowid site about it: link

as it says though, this is the shortened version of psychedelics encyclopedia by the same author so it might be worth checking out if you dont wanna read the whole thing.
