No Speed Limit: The Highs and Lows of Meth
There's an interview with the author on NPR. It made me want to read his book.
I read this one:
Cocaine: An Unauthorized Biography
It's fairly entertaining with a good amount of history.
As for pharmacology & chemistry...
Maybe this one:
The Chemistry of Mind-Altering Drugs: History, Pharmacology, and Cultural Context
I've read that, and it was worth reading, although it's almost ten years old now and I'd like to see something more up to date. I've heard that the best general pharmacology book is the Rang, Dale, and Ritter text, and the parts I've read are good, but unfortunately it doesn't discuss stimulants much.
Maybe this one:
The Chemistry of Mind-Altering Drugs: History, Pharmacology, and Cultural Context
O. J. Kalant, The Amphetamines: Toxicity and Addiction (Thomas, Springfield, 1966) 151 pp.
C. D. Leake, The Amphetamines: Their Actions and Uses (Thomas, Spring field, 1958) 167 pp
Connell, P.H. (1961) Amphetamine Psychosis. Oxford University Press.
O. J. Kalant, The Amphetamines: Toxicity and Addiction (Thomas, Springfield, 1966) 151 pp.
I have this book. It's fairly interesting, though perhaps a bit dated. It's sort of a review of all published papers regarding amphetamine toxicity and addiction until then. So of course it only deals with cases that has come to the attention to a doctor.
The chapters are:
1. Introduction
2. Acute and subacute amphetamine intoxication
3. Toxic effects due to chronic consumption of amphetamines
4. Amphetamine psychosis
5. Amphetamine dependence, habituation, and addiction
6. Abuse of amphetamine-like drugs
(phenmetrazine, methylphenidate, diethylpropion)
7. Social significance of amphetamine abuse
(phenmetrazine, methylphenidate, diethylpropion)
What they say about them? Is there any other substances mentioned than those three?hussness

Lots of interesting psychological, psychiatric, and pharmacological stuff.
The first chapter is "Structure-activity relationships of amphetamine and derivates".
My library has a copy of it so I'm not going to buy it, instead I'm going to go there a couple of times and photocopy it bit by bit. Sneaky eh?Riemann Zeta

Both of these are worth a read... the latter especially, although it is missing a few particulars that could be relevant nowadays.
