Can anyone recommend any good books about stimulants? History of them, pharmacology, chemistry, SAR, almost anything. Thanks.

edit. Good review articles would be great too.

Dale Pendell - Pharmako/Dynamis. Emphasis on history and analysis of man's relationship with stimulants, but also contains technical information.

I have this book. It's fairly interesting, though perhaps a bit dated. It's sort of a review of all published papers regarding amphetamine toxicity and addiction until then. So of course it only deals with cases that has come to the attention to a doctor.

The chapters are:
1. Introduction
2. Acute and subacute amphetamine intoxication
3. Toxic effects due to chronic consumption of amphetamines
4. Amphetamine psychosis
5. Amphetamine dependence, habituation, and addiction
6. Abuse of amphetamine-like drugs
(phenmetrazine, methylphenidate, diethylpropion)
7. Social significance of amphetamine abuse

What they say about them? Is there any other substances mentioned than those three?

Do you know of any studies about behavioural effects of stimulants with different DA:NE reuptake ratios? Specifically I'm looking for DA:NE preference reuptake inhibiting stimulants in rats > 1.

I have the Cocaine Handbook on pdf. I'll also look into my archives and see if I have any good reviews for stimulants.

I was the one that put those ratios on wiki for dextroamphetamine and methamphetamine,
so go to those wiki pages and the references are there

The book International Symposium on Amphetamines and Related Compounds (Proceedings of the Mario Negri Institute for Pharmacological Research) (1970) might interest you.

The first chapter is "Structure-activity relationships of amphetamine and derivates".

My library has a copy of it so I'm not going to buy it, instead I'm going to go there a couple of times and photocopy it bit by bit. Sneaky eh?

One book that I would love to see, but has been out of print since the 1990s is "Amphetamine & Its Analogs--Psychopharmacology, Toxicology and Abuse" by Cho and Segal (1994). Last I checked, Amazon had a copy for something like 1600 USD (ouch!, I guess it really is out of print), so if anyone has a pdf rip, it would be great if we could upload it somewhere.

Halfway on topic, at least, are there any online resources comparable to introductory academic literature as material to use in amateur studying of neuropharmacology, psychology, and pharmacodynamics, of stimulants, preferably amphetamines and the likes. I've got some hang of details here and there from articles, homepages, and various books, but if there exists a webbspot with an academic touch that can be used as, or almost as, course material or such I'd become very thankful.
