Television Boardwalk Empire

a_560x375.jpg

season 2 starts tonight

A very plodding pace this season thus far. It also seems the budget has been slashed. Last season the episodes were meticulously edited and filled with music/art that made everything feel crisp and real. I'm not getting that sense at all now. It just feels like an ordinary period drama.

Wow, I thought this would stay on the first page during the season
Not many BE fans around here?

I've said it once I'll say it again, I fucking love this show, I bet in time it will be just as good if not better than The Sopranos and Breaking Bad in comparing to other quality series.

Also, I was just thinking the other day who would make good guest appearances and Uncle Junior popped in my head first for some reason
The super ironic thing about that is that I just noticed tonight that he's already been in 3 or 4 episodes this season so far, tonight he had a scene with Jimmy and he's hardly recognizable with big thick gray mutton chops and with out the signature thick framed glasses he used to wear lol

This is prolly my favorite scene from the entire series so far though

I agree completely. Last season I felt this show had the potential to fill the void Breaking Bad will inevitably leave after its last season.

This season has been very disappointing so far. I have never seen a show degrade in quality at such a fast rate. I'm still watching, but it's mostly meh...

So with this and The Walking Dead sucking (although the last episode of The Walking Dead was a lot better than the first two), along with my Dolphins my Sunday TV day would be absolute shit if Homeland wasn't so surprisingly good.

Wow, that's totally opposite of my opinion, I think it's getting better and better
Care to explain a little bit why you think the episodes are declining in quality, sir?

I actually completely agree with everything 23(number jumble) said. I have very little to add, really.

The characters are still interesting and the acting is still good, but it feels like it is going nowhere. It feels more like an introduction to all of our favorite gangsters, with no real depth behind them. Hey look, Bugsy Seigal! Meyer Lanksky! Capone and the Yittish Philadelphian. The sets were austere last season, this time they feel lackluster. The suspense isn't there for me (subjective, I know). I'm simply disappointed, as this show seemed like it couldn't miss.

Still worth watching, hopefully it will improve, but it just doesn't feel the same to me this year. I was really looking forward to it.

Once again, however, Homeland is the shit. Surprised the fuck out of me, as I thought it was going to be like another version of 24, which I hated. Instead it's all about PTSD, personality disorders, and invasion of privacy. Fucking awesome drama.

OK that was a great episode though. It looks like things are gonna begin to pick up. There's gonna be a war.

Kelly Macdonald is such a good actress. And so is Michael Shannon (the cop).

"I have no quarrel with you sir, we're just not buying any liquor"

The show is great. Jimmy is my favorite character. I love HBO series they are often extremely well thought out with heroes and villains (in their own right) aplenty. This show could go 100 different ways and I'm excited to see which way it will go.

oh there is no way nucky is ducking out like a bitch....can't wait to see what develops with him.

the power is already going to jimmy's head. that is not good.

This season finally got interesting. The first half of the year was about as bad as it gets for a show of this caliber coming off of that amazing first season. The quality of the actors was never in question, but the amount of overdone super-cliche political plots and the overemphasis on gangsters like Capone, Luciano, and Lansky that we already know everything about in the first half of the season were killing me. Jimmy went super gangster a few times, which kept me entertained, but I do not watch shows such as this for a few good action scenes alone.

Anyways, it has made an amazing comeback in these final two episodes. I am glad to see that it is back on track.

Didn't take too long for Jimmy's power to get to his head, huh? He thought he could be a double downed gangster version of Nucky when he took over. Motherfucker should have known that the time for shooting is over when you get elected. You hire out soldiers to do your dirty work. Jimmy is intelligent, but he is so PTSD'd and fucked in the head that being a career chief enforcer is the only job that will work out for him. I'm guessing him and Eli come crawling back on their knees begging Nucky back by the end of the season. Nucky will likely conspire to ruin or murder the rest, but despite their betrayals, Eli and Jimmy are family to Nuck, and he will not call a hit on them (although I would not be surprised to see Eli killed in a crossfire).

To Memphis, to whom i wrote i wonderful reply that i accidentally deleted myself. great. Anyway, Nucky IS Boardwalk Empire. He is the most talented actor, the most likable actor, the most complex character...the...the...honestly though i would bet you my first born that Nucky survives until the very last episode. whenever that will be. Honestly right now this is the best television i have ever seen. The characters are as good as literature.

Oh wait, I forgot. Enoch Thompson is based upon the real life Enoch Johnson who thrived in the same role until the 1940s...

indeed i am sure he will last throughout the whole show.

if HBO follows history nothing will happen to him. HE DID GO TO JAIL HOWEVER. so i am excited to see if they let him go to jail and give jimmy a chance to shine on the show.

jimmy needs to get his shit together he is making enemies faster than he is making friends. he is starting to get in over his head.

Wow. Just saw next weeks's sneak peek. Jimmy's first lesson: don't let your enemies know where you and your family lay their head. I have a feeling manny is going to catch up to him one way or another.

I also noticed there are only 3 episodes left, WTF? These last three episodes better be action fucking packed. The sneak peek was even prett slow. :::sigh:::

Does anyone think that the beginning of the heroin trade is going to be one of the main plot points next season? I mean, it seems like the writers have slowly been putting it in throughout this season. Each time Lansky and Luciano bring up the topic with Jimmy, he seems to give it little mind; however, I have a feeling that Jimmy just might get into it once he takes a closer look at that sample Luciano gave him. Any other thoughts on this?

I can see Jimmy using heroin down the line. Probably his downfall.

Didn't he smoke opium last season?

Indeed he did, right after the prostitute with the scarred face committed suicide. I can definitely see him trying some heroin after what went down at the end of the last episode. Poor Angela :(
