Television Boardwalk Empire

The show is slowly becoming a new addiction in my apartment, making Sunday nights on HBO essential after the football games.

They bought a few blocks in Brooklyn I believe for the boardwalk set. As cool as the baby incubator center is, they have it as background in an awful lot of scenes. The set feels and looks pretty fake to me, as much as I want to see beyond it, it just looks like B movie quality. Nothing to do with the fact that I like to hit AC up at least once a summer!

Otherwise, loving the show. Love Margaret's slow development. I'd totally written her off as a boring character, there to portray female submissiveness of the period. I've been fooled as every scene with her has my full attention.

Jimmy is the shit. Recruiting former military to run his crew. Guy with the fucked up face is insane.

anyone else still watching this?

i love that nucky brought back jimmy to AC. his character is awesome. this past epsiode was great.

First of all, to enjoy this show you must not try to compare it to Sopranos or any of Scorcse's previous work. It's it's own animal.

What I like about the show is that it really puts you in the time period. Its totally 1920's down to the slang, fashion, and pop culture referrences to now-forgotten celebrities. As lover of all things old-timey American, I dig it.

Like Mad Men, I think much of the appeal of this show is the look-how-much-we've-changed time capsule aspect of it.

coming by to say the guy with the mask is the fucking shit and might be the only reason i keep watching this show

and god cop NELSON VAN ALDEN FROM THE IRS

and god cop NELSON VAN ALDEN FROM THE IRS

For me, he is the most compelling character by far. When you first see him, he seems like a 2-dimenional stock character. He's a straightlaced Joe Friday type who loves God and country. But as the show goes on, he becomes more and more complex. He's a man at war with himself.
The guy who plays him is amazing. I'm no actor but I imagine that character would be pretty tough to nail.

can any of u not wait for tonights season finale??? nelson took my favorite character position from the nuch's german bodyguard last episode.. LOL

nelson is one crazy ass motherfucker

i thought this season finale was kinda disappointing. it left to much in the open. i guess they are just setting up for the next season. but i wont be here :(

htf can you guys say it was a shitty finale? IT LEFT TOO MUCH OPEN!?!?!?!

ITS THE FIRST FUCKING SEASON....how are you going to have a season 2 if you cut off all the story lines!?!?!?

you guys need think a little deeper.

My prediction for season 2:

There will be a war between Nucky and The Commodore. The slave woman that tried to kill The Commodore most likely left open the bible to a verse that hints at the turning of The Commodore. Jimmy will lead the war against Nucky while Eli remains a silent ally. At some point I predict Jimmy will reach out to Capone to put a hit out on Nucky. Jonny Torrio will get wind of the hit and cause problems for the plan and will put a wedge between Jimmy and Capone until Capone takes out Torrio. Jimmy will offer Capone a huge deal and opporunities in Atlantic City making the hit on Nucky too good to pass over. Somewhere in the story line I also predict Jimmy's wife's lover return for her and take her and her son to Paris leaving Jimmy extremely angry which will most likely push him into the war to the point of no return. I also predict that at the beginning of season 2 Jimmy will be torn between Nucky and The Commodore. Nucky seems to be more of a father figure but The Commodore is his blood. I believe his wife's departure will sway him to The Commodore, seeing as how it will be his only legit family left. I also predict he will confide in his mother and she will tell him to side with The Commodore.

All of the smaller characters will fall to one side or the other. Chalky White, I predict, will be a major character in season 2. I predict there will be a story line that pits him to choose between The Commodore and Nucky. I predict he will have a major roll in the murder of Nucky (they use his place for the murder and to lure Nucky into some sort of trap. In the end Chalky will some how have some extreme loyalty to The Commodore due to some kind of history not known to the viewer). I believe Rothstein's lemmings will murder him out and align themselves with Capone. Agent Nelson, I predict, will stay in the story line only long enough to have some sort religious moment where he realizes that the way he sees God and life is not correct. I predict he will eventually kill himself but not after taking revenge on either the bureau or Nucky Thompson. I also wouldn't be surprised if he has a religious expereince where he decides he must do God's work and murders Nucky himself, thus leaving The Commodore, Jimmy, and Eli as the leader's of "The New A.C.". If that does happen it will mostl ikely happen at the end and the plan to have Nucky murdered will already be in talks and leave story lines open between Capone and Jimmy and Rothstein's people.

Nucky and Mrs. Schroder will not be a huge story line. I think Mrs. Schroder will remain with Nucky through season two but at the end will see all of the blood shed and that Nucky will lose and that her life is in danger and in the end will take her kids and leave, again.

I'm going to make a thread for Season 2 predictions.

Boardwalk Empire Season 2 predictions and discussion

I don't read any kind of inside info on the show. I don't read the HBO website about the show. This is strictly my predictions on how the show will progress without any kind of outside information.

I am a huge fan of HBO dramas and loved to predict The Sopranos, The Wire, and Boardwalk Empire turn outs.

Feel free to discuss your own predictions and the show itself.

Nucky is the main character, and Buscemi is the biggest actor they have. There is no way he dies in season 2. Maybe at the end of the show.

I hope Jimmy doesn't end up turning on Nucky, he is my favorite character so far. I know he is torn, but in the end I believe he makes the right decision and sticks with the man who raised him, Nucky, and doesn't turn on him because the Commodore is his father. That dude is a prick.

On another note, I loved that line by Nucky when he was speaking with Margret: "We all have to decide just how much sin we can live with". It pretty much applies to all of my favorite gangster shows, like Breaking Bad, The Wire, The Sopranos, The Shield, etc...

People become polarized on these characters. I know Nucky and Jimmy aren't good people, but I love them nonetheless. I always sympathize with and justify the actions of Walt and Jesse in Breaking Bad. I always pulled for Avon Barksdale and Stringer Bell in The Wire, although Marlo was too ruthless to sympathize with. I loved Tony Soprano up until the 6th season, where after all of his redemption and trying to be a nicer guy, he regresses into an even bigger asshole than he has ever been.

When i speak about HBO dramas i think about much more than the characters and story. You also have to think about the director and other elements. HBO and its directors doesn't seem to care about the popularity of the actors it chooses. HBO dramas has just as much of a chance to make an actor as it does to break one. Yeah Buscemi is the biggest actor they have but i dont think HBO gives a fuck. They seem to choose the story and plot over actors. Boardwalk Empire isn't just about Nucky which is why i precit he will be snuffed out. They couldn't take out Tony Soprano because who the fuck would they follow around? The thing about boardwalk empire is that its not really about a list of characters, yes it has characters in it, but i believe its more about Atlantic City and how local government was during prohibition 1920s (Boss Long (LA), Boss Crump (Memphis), Boss Johnson (Atlantice City)). the characters can be switched every which way as long as they stay on the main premise of the show.

i hope Jimmy does turn on Nucky. another reason i think he will is because the theme of "blood is thicker than water" keeps coming up in the show. i also wouldnt be surprised if Eli side with Nucky mid season.

also: how can you call The Commodore a prick and in the same post glamarize Nucky? The Commodore went down for both of them, Nucky turned into a greedy prick. The Commodore built that city and Nucky just runs it. Nucky pimped Jimmy's mother, Nucky had Mrs. Schroder's husband killed, Nucky has ALOT of people killed and so far all The Commodore has done was be ill and call the shots from his bed.

They reached an agreement together than the Commodore would take the fall instead of both of them. He simply disagrees with the way Nucky runs the city now, but that is his bad.

And Nucky was just doing his job. The Commodore was the pedo who had sex with a 13 year old girl.

Two completely different, but valid, views. The Commodore may have boned that little girl, but he gave her a better life.

go discuss the second season in my other thread mayne.

edit: no thoughts on the "blood is thicker than water" theme that keeps coming up?
