Hi, I've been prescribed Subutex for ~6 years now. I started out taking the name brand, which were great but have been discontinued. There are currently 3 different generic brands of buprenorphine available the I know of, as described below. I prefer the Teva brand and need help finding a pharmacy that carries them currently. Do not try to tell me that all generic/brands are created equally. With nearly 10 years experience being a pharm junky, I know that there can be BIG differences between brands of the same medication. These are the buprenorphine hcl 8 mg tablets in current production:
Roxanne: (Round, White, Imprints: 54 411, other side blank) : These were the first generics to come out, and I've never had a problem with them. Consistent quality, easy to break for dosing, and all around OK. I'd give them an 8 out of 10, with 10 being quality comparable to the old name brand Subutex.
Teva: (Oblong, White, Imprints: B, other side 799) : These came out shortly after Roxanne hit the market, and I immediately preferred them to Roxanne. Just as good if not better than the name brand, consistent quality, and superior to Roxanne IMO. I give these a 10 out of 10, which is why I am trying to find them.
High-Tech: (Round, White (very tiny), Imprints: 8 and an arrow logo on other side: These came out within the last year or two, and are terrible. I have several friends that are also on Subutex, and every single one of us had problems with these. There are terrible quality control problems. Sometimes they work with no complaints and sometimes I may as well have taken a placebo. They're also too small to break into smaller (sub-mg) doses. I give these a 2 out of 10, only because I'd take them over nothing.
Up until 6-8 months ago, I had no trouble getting Teva's from Walgreens, although this was after another 6 month or 8 month time period where they had vanished. I just got off the phone with Teva and apparently they are no longer on back order, I just can't find them! When they first came out, I always got them at Rite Aids. Then Walgreens carried them. So far after calling about 8 pharmacies today, I found one Walgreens that has 25 of them, and I need 60. This is way it's been for about 5 years now, Roxanne is always available, thank God, but Teva tends to disappear from time to time.
So my main question is, If you are prescribed Subutex and have gotten the Teva brand lately, which pharmacy did you use and where do you live? Thanks.
