Bluelight weekly photography contest Round 70: Broken

If tambo-man could confirm that it is indeed a different photo, that would be great. I know I once before encouraged someone here to repost a shot I really liked for another round, if only it was a different photo, like taken from a slightly different angle. I know it was a bit selfish of me back then and could have opened the door to a flood of reposts, but we seem to have fared quite well since. So, as long as tambo's entry is not simply an excellent crop job of the previously entered photo, but is an entirely different photo in itself, I don't see a problem.

Personally, I don't really care if it's entered. I think it would only make a difference if it was a photo that won previously. I guess I never really understood that rule, and I'm glad it was changed so that you could enter photos that were posted previously in other (non-contest) threads. But to me, I would consider it the same photo. I don't really think it matters, because I doubt if it will lead to a bunch of duplicate entries, but it seems so close to the other one that I would consider it the same.

I just think it's important to clarify what counts as a duplicate entry, and what the official standing of that rule is, so that people are clear on the rules.

Does a different cropping of the same photo mean it is a duplicate?

Is a photo that displays the exact same image as another photo, but nevertheless was taken with a separate press of the "capture" button, considered a duplicate photo? I could take a photo of an empty room, and then come back at the same time the next day, and take pretty much the exact same photo, but they would still technically be "different" pictures, even though they look exactly the same.

^ G's dude, learn the rules!

If you have a problem with another contestant's entry adhering to the contest guidelines, please PM the forum moderators. Do not try to begin a debate about the issue within the contest submission or poll thread! There will be zero tolerance towards any attempts to devolve a contest thread into a bash-fest or witch hunt.
8) ;) :D

I don't have a problem with it adhering to the rules, and I'm not bashing him or anything. I'm more trying to figure out what the rules are. This is a discussion about the rules in general and what constitutes a duplicate photo, not about whether tambo's entry breaks the rules or should be allowed.

I already said that I think it should be allowed, regardless of what the rules are, because the rules aren't clear as to what is a duplicate photo. In fact, assuming that we are interpreting the language of the rules in the most literal and strictest sense, then it isn't a duplicate, because it is cropped differently.

Regardless of whether it's eventually decided that differently cropped photos will still be considered duplicates, I would think that that would only go into effect after this round, because prior to tambo's entry, the rules were unclear on that matter. As far as I'm concerned, his entry should stay. I'm not even talking about that anymore, only about the rules in general.

Since it's going to effect everyone, I think it's better to discuss it publicly, so that everyone can follow the discussion and contribute if they want.

haha I know you weren't serious, that was more for Tambo so he didn't think I was trying to make any trouble for him, and to clarify what I was talking about in general.

I haven't warned anyone yet. We have a nice, quiet little forum here. :)

I'm afraid it's an excellent crop job. ;)

The really weird thing is that I don't even remember entering it in the other round! :D Actually, looking at that link, I think the picture works best under the theme "abandoned".

FTR, I agree with the rule regarding re-posting pictures - cropped or otherwise. It keeps the competition fresh... so I'll withdraw it.

Nice entries! The balloon idea is really creative.

ah, so you haven't seen the schwepps commercials then?

By the way, am I the only one that thought "wow! 70 contests already" ?

i know it's awesome huh? i was hoping the facey pastey comps would go the distance too but i'm not sure if anyone works in the lounge anymore. :(

I couldn't capitalise on my original idea (as usual, for lack of time to go where I wanted to go), so I'll have to offer up something from the archives.
