Bluelight weekly photography contest Round 54: Graffiti

if this was a graffiti contest id agree with you. but its not, its a photography contest, with graffiti as the theme. which means take a pic of some graffiti, not make some graffiti and then take a pic of it. thats like having "cake" as the theme and then bitching at people if they didnt bake the cake themselves.

^That crossed my mind too. Theres plenty of things you can do with this round to still make it about the photography and not the graffiti, like katmeows pic is tilted and I really like the picture for that reason, not just for its graffiti, or like what a lot of other people did, using the graffitied wall and an interesting composition.

^ i think i understand your point, but why did you mention sheepish? that entry still has photgraphic composition. i mean if the only thing in the photo is a close up of a tag with nothing to judge it by BESIDES the art work itself sure I see your point.... but, just dont vote for it if you dont think it fits the guidlines of a photo contest. i think theres a bunch of people in here who dont know much about photography and make a choice based on subject matter alone... what can you do? not everyone is an pro, ive come to learn its just for fun in here. i know i dont always agree with the voting results...

amor fati: if you want to join a huge canon only forum with tons of awsum shit including contests, for the more serious photographer, i would recomend.

As has been mentioned by others, Graffiti is only a theme here. No different than Architecture, where of course none of the contestants would be required to construct their entries.

^ wha??? I've been building my pagoda for the architecture contest for three weeks and now I find out that the other participants can go out and shoot any old building they find on the street?! 8o

I feel like for this one the photographer is required to add something to the image. No offense to catmeow and sheepish, unless you tagged that up, it's not your art:\

That particular piece comes from one of the alleyways in Melbourne. It's just a section of the piece and shot at an angle. What I liked about it when I took it, was that I've seen that particular graf photographed by several people and everyone has a different take on it. I do get where you're coming from though ... it's not the best entry I've ever made in terms of composition, but this competition is more about having a bit of fun and I'd rather be in it than not :)

OK, OK, I was just joking about building the pagoda. No need for an extra vote - but thanks. =D
