RULES
1. Any photograph or variation of a photograph which has been previously submitted for one of the contest rounds cannot be used in subsequent rounds of the contest.

2. Photographs must be your original work and that has never been copyrighted or, if copyrighted, that you are the sole copyright owner of.
2a. No submitting pictures for other people, for friends, etc. Your OWN work, very simple.

3. Only one photograph may be entered per contest.

4. All photographs must be free of watermarks, signatures and borders

5. Photographs must be no wider than 700 and no higher than 700.

6. Deadline for entries is 12am eastern on the posted deadline date.

7. Voting ends at 12am eastern on the posted end date.

8. Post your images in the appropriate thread in the form of an image, not a link to click on.

9. Don't be a dummy and vote for your own photo, try and make it fun.

Be reminded that this is a photo contest and so images which have been heavily manipulated through an image editing software will not be accepted. To put everyone on a level playing field, editing should be restricted to cropping and resizing.

Images which are not relevant to the week's theme will be automatically removed.

If you have a problem with another contestant's entry adhering to the contest guidelines, please PM the forum moderators. Do not try to begin a debate about the issue within the contest submission or poll thread! There will be zero tolerance towards any attempts to devolve a contest thread into a bash-fest or witch hunt.

We will pick the next theme and post it the night a contest ends for the next round so people have a full 7 days to take pictures and submit them. After all the entries have been posted, a poll will be added on the last night, so people can vote. Voting will take place from midnight to midnight over the following 2 days (12am Sunday - 12am Tuesday).

Those who wish to participate in sharing full versions of their entries may do so by providing a link only to the full sized version in the same post as their entry.

Thank you and have fun!

Please submit your photos in this thread and a mod will re-post them when voting starts in a separate voting thread.

Submissions: August 06 - August 12
Voting: August 13 - 14

Next theme is Churches and Other Temples of Worship
followed by Black and White (i.e. non-colour)

>_> dangit, I don't even think I've seen a lighthouse around hurr. Black and white will be good!!

lol, rather surprised at this theme as it really makes it hard for anyone that doesnt live near the sea..........but at least i get more time to work on the next one.

it really does leave people that live in say... northern new mexico or nevada to get pictures to enter with, im interested in how this one will come out

Me too. It is pretty specific. Its kind of funny though my wife just bought a lighthouse decoration for the apartment So I will plan on shooting that. Also I have seen lighthouses at miniature golf places and stuff like that.

Approximately 70 percent of the earth's surface is covered with water. Historically, most civilisation has been built beside water first, before propagating inland. Some contest themes will be more inclusive than others. This one, IMHO, presents great opportunity to discover what really lies/stands in your neck of the woods. :)

Top points to our regulars for being consistent in submitting an entry.

I have yet to take a picture on the theme myself, but will be doing so Wednesday or Thursday, guaranteed.

You can do it! ;)

^ I respect the thought you put into this round's theme but, still, logistically I find it difficult for a lot of people to get in this round (yes, even people who live on coasts).

The search for each category is pretty difficult. From wiki:

Operational historic lighthouses:
Because of modern navigational aids, the number of operational lighthouses has declined to less than 1,500 worldwide.

Modern Lighthouses:
Often in inaccessible locations, modern lighthouses are much more functional and less picturesque buildings; usually they are solar-powered and have a single flashing light, which does not rotate, sitting on a steel skeleton tower.

Lighthouses out of operation:
As lighthouses have become less essential to navigation, many of their historic structures have faced demolition or neglect.

This post may come off that I'm making a pretty big deal out of this but I was just surprised how difficult it is to find a lighthouse to shoot. :\

Scotland isn't exactly rife with firework displays, so that pretty much ruled out that round to me and plenty of others worldwide. :\

When the "tumbleweed" or "cactus" rounds come along, New Mexico & Nevada residents will hopefully kick all ass.:D

LOL! @ Cletus =D

AmorRoark, I hear and understand what you're saying. Fact remains inevitable though that some themes will be much more popular than others. I don't think that's reason enough to abandon any particular theme(s). :)

Who said it has to be a genuine lighthouse by the water either? I was asking my son earlier today if he had any lighthouse toys. I didn't think he did, but sometimes stuff sneaks past me from grandma's house so it was worth a shot. :D

So I take it we're still on for colonoscopy shots in two weeks?

Oh piss. I've just realised that my entry for the 'Red' contest was... wait for it... a feckin lighthouse. BAH :!

Back to the drawing board. :|

Felix, that entry was the first thing that crossed my mind when I was setting up this round. I thought to myself, "I hope felix took a few more shots of that baby, perhaps from two degrees left or two steps right of the other shot". :(
