I can't say that it's impossible to take that shot, and I actually quite admire Alpha and her work - she's a fucking amazing photographer/artist.

I was actually not going to say anything, but shadows do not cast hard edges, it is impossible, they are always diffused and soft at the edge. That, and that alone would be the reason I might think that photo's shadows are not real. Is it possible that they were only cleaned up with photoshop, sure.

Why not let Alpha answer how this photo was created instead of fighting amongst ourselves about it?

Ya, I gotta chill a lot with the attacks. Its not necessarily the fact I use speed for both recreational and medicinal uses. I am a bit of a cynical person. I pick up on opinions that are different from my own and tend to express my own in a more strong and defining manner. The bit of slurring the opposing opinion is moreso just a personal bit from the speed, I get too into the name calling, I got a crude sense of humor. I shouldn't necessarily be forced to apologize, its a free country, and a free world if you really break it down. My actions, my opinions, are my own, people may be against them, thats their right, but its also my right to express my own and to support my own with the necessary means. The hateful speech may be too much, but motivation to win the support of your opinion against odds is what is its motivator. By discrediting the opposition in any case, the support changes sides.

Then again, I'm just an arrogant asshole with a strong opinion that I don't like to have disproved. Oh well... always been this way, deal with it. :p
 
OK so i sat here and grabbed some forks and a blank sheet of white paper......a strong light and tried some stuff.

There is no doubt i could get the right angles etc and the reflections in the forks matched.

I have a pretty strong light but because it was not focussed from a single point it did tend to leave a sort of haze and hence not a clearly defined shadow.

However I know that the sun would do that better.

Also if I could detach my flash then maybe that would achieve it as well?

The other consideration I had was that I believe you can do all sorts of things with filters..........maybe thats how it was done.

The one thing I do know is that ACID is damn good at putting a pic together and hence I assume she must know a lot about photography........certainly more than I and for that reason alone, its not my right to dare to question.

Having said that, my mind stays open to all possibilities but I need to be convinced beyond reasonable doubt.........and currently Im not. For that reason I will fight for what I believe and that is that all people should be treated equal and are innocent until proven guilty.

ive always wondered as to the nature of alpha's pics she posts in these contests. you either have the talent of a world renowned photographer, or ur really good at right click -> save as...

this is not an accusation, consider it a compliment (for now). yah that was sarcasm, im with DarkCode on this one.

I would think you would need to take it without a flash and use a slightly longer shutter speed to get the exposier correct. but using a flash will deminish the shadow as well as white out the forks with glare.

i think it could be done, but i think if it was done correctly the result would still look different then alpha's photo looks..

IMHO: its a fake

I'll post my comments regarding AlphaCharlieID and then could we please get on with more photos and less banter? Thanks.

Reportedly, ACID will not be around BL for the next indefinite while and will thus not be able to either defend her position, deny any accusations, or accept any responsibility. It can take a second to destroy someone's image (pun) and an eternity for that person to restore it. My intention is then to admit her entry into the upcoming poll, as any evidence presented against her has been far from conclusive.


Next theme will be Windows

Now, I'm hoping for 22 late minute entries here. This round ends on the 8th. Three days to go after today.

DarkCode has made point after point, after point, after point with evidence to back up his claims. IMHO he/she certainly sounds like they know what they're talking about. This isn't the first time ACID has had questionable pictures, remember.

Also, irfanview crops and resizes pictures just as well as photoshop. Just sayin......

If you think AlphaCharlieID's "photo" is edited send your message clear - do not vote for it.
 
I dont think her photo can be achieved without a lot of editing for reasons stated above. I will def. not be voting in that picture which brings me to my next point. Why should that photo be allowed in if the person isnt even going to be around to see it they win, specially when we have so many other talented people that could 'win'/

I myself dont have a pic for this round but next one I do :)
 
If you're not going to be voting for that pic, then don't vote for that pic. It's as simple as that. As for why that photo should be allowed in even if the person is gone on leave, it's quite simple - the person might be gone, but the entry is still here. If the person wanted to exclude their entry, they would have deleted it themselves. As for you all trying to exclude it, well, as BA put it, don't vote for it. Trying to incite a mob to accept your point of view isn't the best tact here, imo. If you want to show your strengths, you can do so in two ways - 1. enter the round and 2. vote.

BA, just because "irfanview crops and resizes pictures just as well as photoshop", it doesn't mean one shouldn't use PhotoShop. I use Paint.net, PaintShop and PhotoShop to do ALL of my photo resizing, depending on what computer I am on at the time.
 
the levels in that photo could have been tweaked to create the strong contrast/lack of greys in the shadow area. level adjustments are not heavy manipulations in my opinion, unless you pull out all the midtones and are left with something like this. the lack of texture on the ground that isn't showing in the forks is a bit puzzling.

Nothing wrong with artistic discussion, just don't attack each other! :)

im not sure

you wouldnt know by looking at my hands that i was "different"

....but i can do this thing where i lock all my fingers up like that, its kinda cool i guess.

my fingers are also SUPER INCREDIBLY flexible--its frustrating trying to open push-doors because my fingers go all the way back to touch the back of my hands.

this does not hurt at all.

i also cant snap my fingers, because they bend too much.
