haha yeah it does look like that. That's out here in Southern California, where my parent's live and it's pretty close to the desert. People dump their shit everywhere out there, so I did a little "documentary" of sorts where I took pictures of a lot of that stuff I could find with star trails overhead.
 
sweet lord, max. i admit it. i am not the first person to take a slow shutter picture of grand central at rush hour. 8o in fact, it has been done by thousands of people before me. some of their shots are much better too. have you ever seen the dance scene from the fisher king that was filmed at grand central? simply stunning.

Very cool pic Banquo! Did they let you bring a tripod into the trainstation? I only ask because I tried that once and was quickly told to put it away or be kindly escorted out of the building, lol.

no tripod. i think you need a permit for that. it's actually been a point of contention between law enforcement and First Amendment types in grand central as well as in other public areas, where "security" is a concern. coincidentally, someone was arrested in grand central just this week for taking pics on one of the train platforms (without a tripod).

BUT back to the instant matter -- there is a "secret" naturally-occuring tripod that you can use to stabilize your camera for time lapse pictures at grand central. it is at the center of one of the middle staircase handrails that overlooks the main floor. depending on the time or day, there might even be other photographers there. you might be able to see the tripod spot here in this picture from the MTA web site:

there is room on the handrail to set down your camera and use whatever shutter speed you like. you can even pivot the camera to compose panoramics shots.

i wanted to take a picture the other day that would be great for this theme, but i didnt have time, so this will have to do. ill post the other one when i get a chance to take it.
