i'm a felixtentialist actually. which means if i don't win this one, i do in fact win. ;)

thanks addictivepersona, you rock. <3

^ Everyone else went with a literal interpretation, but I have always found MTV to be much more empty than a wallet without cash or glass that had been emptied. :P

i'll deconstruct my one, for anyone that's interested:

  • MTV's vapidness shouldn't require any explanation
  • It's displayed on an iPhone, which represents the empty hearts and dashed hopes of Steve Jobs' fanbois - or the empty lives we now have staring into our little screens while the real world goes on all around us
  • Albert Camus' book "The Stranger", or, as I pretentiously prefer to call it: "L’Étranger" deals with many themes, including the emptiness that the protagonist feels upon killing the Arab, which is also a reference to the angst & emptiness I dealt with during my teenage years by listening to the first four Cure albums all the time
  • Blank CDs represent the empty materialistic lives we are encouraged to lead by the media, as well as the lack of value we give to art these day thanks to ease of downloading anything we want for free, which devalues everything
  • The background is Carl Sagan's "Cosmos", and I think the emptiness of space is pretty self explanatory.

All lit by the orangey glow of an electric halogen heater... let's say that represents the emptiness of the Earth when the Sun eventually burns out. Or something.

That photo was my eighth attempt at getting the composition and lighting right.

=====

But maybe taking a snapshot from the hip of the first literally empty thing I could see would have been a better strategy. Am I now remembering why I stopped bothering entering these contests?

Bitter much? Yes indeed. I'm giving Max and Damien cockpunches over the internet right now. Congratulations! :D

lol.

EDIT: I'm just being snarky at those two (sorry) cos I know they can do much better. but at least they contributed, I just wish more other people would. come on folks!

I found it very interesting. :) Couldn't tell the CDs were blank or what book that was. :P

Keep entering the contests, please. ;)

^ will do, thanks. ;)

thanks bro!

do you think it's about time I gave Uncle George his "Cosmos" book back? I've only had it since about 1985. :D

Is that the dead Uncle George or the alive Uncle George? Doesn't really matter anyway, because I think you may have gotten away with it. Unless of course I shop you to the authorities for your thievery!

why the hell would I care about giving a book back to a dead person? :?

thank god you're not modding this forum any more. *shakes head*

Hmm, at first I thought it was about heaping a bunch of consumer junk on top of the existential crisis/void/angst/whatever-you-call-it. But well, I certainly don't believe that value is proportionate or even necessarily related to monetary cost. Actually, I think that is a really shitty and impoverished view of the world, no pun intended ;p

just my .02$ (haha)

EDIT: Oh, yea, also nice looking picture, Felix ;)
