this week's theme is GROSS!! it will end one week from tonight at midnight central time on may 18th

next weeks theme: NOISE

In the same vein as my last submission to the 2-D thread. I took a friend's picture and zombified it. The first one was a small picture of Aly.

This one is a nice, big headshot of our very own ebow...

The Before:

And

The After:

Both of them were done using Photoshops basic tools, brushes and layer modes. I did a lot of the texturing in seperate alpha channels and played with a few different techniques until I found one that suited the piece. I wanted to make the gash in his cheek go further up into his face, and I was also playing with the bone structure in his nose, but by the time I got there it looked a lot less photo realistic. Although I do still have all the masking layers I made for those effects. Maybe someday soon I'll re-release this one as an even deader zombie.

Adios,
Steve

that is awesome in a horrible disgusting way... especially if that hand is made out of what I think it is!

i fail to see the people.

i imagine you are high.

thank you? :)

this was my first attempt at photoshop.

seeing as there is only 2 entries.. ill let this ride another week, if i dont get more entries by then im going to let this thread go due to lack of participation

sigh.. i guess ill let photoshopping in my thread afterall... i did spend a lot of time on that peice--and gain some respect for photoshop and its powers.

ego: channels are similar to layers, but are colored tints, correct?

^^
in the most basic of terms, yes.

Alpha channels, however, are extra channel layers that you can use for a variety of purposes.

You'd be surprised just how much more you can achieve with Photoshop when you learn how to use alpha channels to their full potential. They can change the way you do... well... everything. From basic selections to filter modifiers to advance layer effects (no, not the lame layer effects filter, manual layer effects), proper channel use is key.

I'd suggest you pick up a copy of "Photoshop for Dummies"... I'm pretty sure they cover the basics of using alpha channels. Once you learn the basics, the rest of the pieces fall into place.
