we should have a forum specifically for drug related problems that need to be answered quickly. For such threads as 'possible od' 'should i go to er' 'do these drugs interact' and so on. a forum specifically for urgent questions that need to be answered quickly, and that anyone who is online will see when someone makes a new thread.

y/n/maybe?

The reason we don't do this is that in any urgent medical situation, the answer is "go to the hospital!"

but sometimes the question may not need a hospital. Like my thread: i have to go to bed soon and need an answer whether i can take lamotrigine with hydromorphone.. its urgent, but im not gonna go to the hospital.

or asking questions like 'have i cooked this down the right way' etc..

I have responded to many emergency threads on BL, always with the wish that as pegasus brought up that they would have called emergency services instead of posting on a board.

We aren't real time help like getting a hold of professional responders would be. We aren't looking to replace real time responders or even trying to become in anyway their equivalent. Any pressing matters that warrant a right now response are beyond our scope. Our best answers emerge over days or weeks. We are not real time in any practical way and don't want anyone to think we can be or are about to be.

For emergency situations (not necessarily the ones you described) we can only say "go to the hospital" as anything that convinces you not to if you think you should is clearly harmful. Therefore the only time our input is useful is when you aren't planning on going to the hospital and we convince you otherwise and it was required. Every other time we send people to the hospital who don't need to go, make people worry who choose not to go after we told them to, and do nothing but waste time for people who are already planning on going.

This message can be sent much easier as a big "go to the hospital" rule as opposed to a forum.

As for "quick questions", as Enki said we can't guarantee someone is online who can answer your questions nor that it is answered properly. If you have a quick straightforward question ask in BDD and wait.

I don't really see how these questions couldn't have been asked/researched in advance? Either way they are currently answered as quickly as possible and having a forum for quick answers wouldn't speed anything up. Maybe if in the future there is a general drugs chat room you can hope for live answers but it still likely won't be manned by an infinitely knowledgeable person at all times.

Having an "Emergency/potential OD" type thread seems like a good idea, but It would put Bluelight in legal positions....

For example: Somebody posts saying "I took (whatever amount)of such and such drug, and i'm feeling dizzy and I keep passing out, should I go to the hospital or not worry about it?"

And if somebody responded and said something like "You'll be fine, the hospital wont do anything for you anyway"

And the kid ends up dying- somebody could say that bluelight was the reason the kid didn't try to get help, because bluelight said he'd be fine, even though it wasn't bluelight that said it, it woulda been a member....

Too risky but nice idea though

i obviously did a goggle search and nothing came up which is why i posted in BL

I tried the drugs.com interaction checker mentioned above, and it gave some useful information.

As others said: an urgent forum wouldn't work, because mods here are volunteers. You can't guarantee that someone will be available to answer your questions. The site really isn't set up for such a thing. For questions like yours, maybe ask in advance or just don't do the combo if you're not sure?
