I've nicknamed my Ninja 650 "Mango Smoothie" 'cause it sounds like a kitchen blender. But it does 0-60 in three seconds, so what the fuck...

Umm, loud mufflers are illegal in most states, therefore they are already banned. The cops just don't give a shit and don't have the sound meters to prove loudness levels. I haven't met anyone yet who heard a large group of loud "cruisers" go by on a quiet Sunday afternoon and say "wow, that was cool-I need to do that too". It's more like, "what gives those redneck assholes the right to be loud like that?" And nor do I ride in groups of more than 3 because it's inherently dangerous and too slow paced. I have nothing against any bike in general, except maybe Harleys because they don't think their shit stinks... and they are always the loudest ones. And I think I have a right to my own opinion beings I worked on Harleys at a dealership for 3 years and rode hundreds of them. I didn't want to bring in the big guns, but I think it's time... http://www.goingfaster.com/angst/main.htm

PS: I have stated my opinion and will not say another negative word on this subject, nor argue with anyone else, because it is a waste of my time

Recreational drugs are illegal and banned too, but many people seem to continue partaking in them regardless of the law.

I've met many people who admire riding cruisers on a Sunday afternoon.

Riding motorcycles is inherently dangerous, period. Regardless, sometimes I enjoy riding in large groups and sometimes I prefer to ride alone.

You are entitled to your opinion as I am entitled to mine. I don't share many of your opinions. But I support your right to express them.

Well maybe you can tell that to the charity childrens orphanage that over 2000 bikes showed up to support last October (yup, I was part of this group that did a 12 mile ride to the orphanage to ride by the kids because THEY ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT) not too mention the thousands of "spectators" that came out to watch on the streets and cheered us on.

Maybe it's differenet out where you are, but in New England bikers in general are welcomed in most cities and establishments. There are always signs around saying "Bikers Welcome", I'll take some pictures in my travels this summer and post them here.

I have done several group rides (8+ bikes in the group on average) and it's no more than riding solo as long as every else respects everyone else's space. There ARE in fact rules to riding in a group, staggering being first and foremost just to name one rule.

You seem severely biased against cruisers, based on very general stereotypes which I find kind of funny as you are a registered member of an internet message board that promotes Illicit Drug harm reduction and education, a group that is pretty oppressed and severely stereotyped.

PS. You're still making the assertion that everyone who rides a cruiser rides a modified Harley. You can check my very first post in this thread, I posted a pic of my bike and it is certainly NOT a Harley.

I don't think anyone is going to get far trying to convince anyone else why there choice in style bike is somehow inherently better than the other. It's pretty much pissing into the wind if you ask me.
exactly. and that is not the point of this thread either; quite the opposite.

Fillerup: i'm sure you've seen or even participated in that type of argument on bike forums many times, so you'll know it's futile. let's get back to nicer things, eh?

If it's got two wheels, a motor, and a tail bunny on the back, they all look like great fun if ya ask me...

Just another week and a half to get through until my weekend long biker event. It sounds like there are some great rides planned through Massachusetts, New York, and Vermont.

It's going to be a great weekend!!! I can't wait!

I just wish the weather would cooperate a little more. I was out riding around on Saturday checking out some of the damage from Friday in Northwood.

I managed to get out for a little bit on Saturday, enough time to get my front tire changed, hang out at my inlaws for awhile and then race the storm home.

It feels like it's been raining forever! Every day I check the weather and it's the same thing "chance of showers". :(

Tomorrow is supposed to be perfect riding weather! :) are you gonna be out riding? lemme know. and maybe we can scoot around for a while.

Well... pick an event or a weekend and let's hit the road!

The Keene swap meet isn't until September. The NH/Vermont HOG rally is August 5 & 6, but that's on a Wednesday and Thursday. You missed Laconia Bike Week, but it's still a nice destination for a ride even without the 200,000 crazy bikers! ;) If you've never ridden across the Kangamangus highway or around Lake Winnipesaukee, they make for a nice day ride. Or we could just meet up and putt around on some local roads you like.

If we decide on a ride and give a little lead time, maybe we can get a few more BL'rs to join us.

I bought a bike about 2 months ago. A 1987 Honda XL 600r. It's an on/off road bike which is great for my purposes i live out in the country and love to ride trails as much as the road. It's nice to not have boundaries. :)

I had to rebuild the engine and it's just starting to be put back together due to parts suppliers taking forever to get the parts to me. It's in my basement right now and I just put the cylinder on today. It's got a new 11:1 piston in it, and as it continues ot get put together it'll have new valves/valvesprings, exhaust and jetting kit. It'll have some good balls. 600cc single cylinder with high compression, titanium valvesprings, free flowing exhaust, high flow airfilter and the right jetting. :)

I'll get some pics up when it's done.

Oh man, what a great weekend. Two full days of riding, fantastic weather, great friends, it doesn't get much better than that. I'm glad that summer has decided to kick it into gear here in New England, it's about freaking time!

Yar, In southeastern Ontario it's been the crappiest summer I can remember. We had a nice weekend but it's back to cloudy and cold today. Seems our summers are getting colder and winters are getting warmer; WTF?

I put 100 miles on the bike yesterday. I just took off on my own to check out this little shop I have been dying to check out. I even stopped and had an ice cream cone. It was a gorgeous day and I'm so glad that I got out and got a much needed dose of some Vitamin D. :)

Saturday is supposed to be absolutely perfect weather for a ride... sunny and 80's. Anybody up for a ride? There's a cool bikes show and hot wings contest in Meredith, NH this Saturday the 8th.

There's also a Wild Loons Ride on Sat, Aug 22 that starts in Meredith and tours parts of Winnipesaukee and Squam Lakes with stops to view wildlife and loons. There's even more ride events in August that can be found in http://www.bikerplaza.com/motorcycle-events-nh.html

Just thought I'd throw a few things out there to see if anybody might be interested.

Some quick ride logs:

1. Went up Bear Mountain with a fellow BL-er and saw--you guessed it--a bear! It was ambling across the road about 100 yards away. It was young--about 300-400 lbs., but boy what a sight. Not to mention the dozens of deer along the parkway.

2. Up to Buffalo to see friends--from NYC about 800 miles round-trip.

3. Up to Watertown, NY for a job interview--I got the job, too.

Maybe motorcycles are good karma... :)

I just got my mustang seat in the mail today!! I got it put on and took the bike for a ride and found out that I can no longer sit flat footed on the bike anymore. :( I ordered a lowering kit (will lower the bike 2 inches) this week and I'm purchasing some handlebar risers from a friend. The bike will be lowered and the risers will be put on hopefully next weekend.

I keep telling my husband that "this is the last thing I'm going to buy this year" but that hasn't worked out so well.
