The more records in your database, the longer it takes to back it up. You can either take an ASCII dump, which takes longer; or copy the .frm, .MYD and .MYI files. That is much quicker BUT isn't guaranteed to work across different software versions / hardware architectures, which isn't so good in the case of an enforced server upgrade.
And the BL server probably gets its time from an atomic clock anyway, since there's a standard for doing that on the Internet. Even creationists set their watches by atomic clocks -- when they are not busy insisting that atomic decay rates cannot possibly be constant, otherwise the world would have to be more than 6000 years old.
