Bluelight and the Aussie Internet Filter – Will it affect us?

Yeah, 60% of humans may be morons, but it's those 40% who think they're superior that are more dangerous. EVERY human has flaws - realise you're part of the 'stupid' human condition ;) not above it.

^ I think it just was. ;)

Life is considered an analogue by the Australian government now anyway...

I hope everyone here is enrolled to vote and ready to make it count.

The senate tickets became available today. They show how the parties have distributed their preferences for those people who choose to vote 1 above the line. It was interesting to see that The Greens and The Sex Party both put all other Labor candidates ahead of Conroy. It's a start, though it will take lots of Labor voters to vote below the line and put Conroy last to mean he doesn't get in... he is second on their ticket.

In Victoria, there are 60 boxes. I figure I have enough time to number them all. This way I can vote Conroy 60th. (I'll be voting 1 Greens.)

Nope not enrolled. I quite enjoy having the government follow me around knocking on my door and seeing if im enrolled and leaving notice's in the mail box about the details of who lives there...all of which are ignored.

I would vote Green if I were enrolled, but sorry Tronica I don't share your faith in how much of a difference voting really makes.

Yeah, im pretty tired of hearing this from people who want change... Am i right to stick you in the same box as the zeitgeist hypers and hippies who just plain outright hate government. maybe you don't really want change? or just couldn't give a shit about the social environment around you?

"oh i don't believe in voting so im not gonna do it" ...

what the fuck.... maybe i have it wrong, and you like drugs being a criminal item, you want censorship, you want more government in your life..

If you were enrolled, and voted, you would be one more of the one of us, the people on the same side with similar ideals to yourself, helping put other parties in the senate to help block shitful restrictive policies ...

But no, instead you roll over and let the old cunt sheeple that consume their information from the opiate called TV that have fuck all understanding of anything other than what the ACA spew out and which conglomerate shopping centre has on sale continue to push the vote the way the TV tells them to ... shit makes me sick. Thanks for your help mate.

/rant :X

Voting greens is a nice idea, they do have some ok policies, but please, don't just vote for them to not let libs or labor get in, atleast ensure their policies line up with your ideals.... I have some real problems with their extremist eco policies that will send blue collars broke. I don't know about you people, but i want to be able to afford power to turn on my computer and read bluelight.

And it seems alot of people are understanding now, VOTING BELOW THE LINE IS IMPORTANT.

If I enroll I have to vote in every election. Local elections and until recently state elections iv had no care or intrest in. Is it really a wise idea forcing me to vote in something I have no knowledge or intrest in what so ever?

That's the biggest problem I have. You might think im full of shit because im not using my vote but being forced to use my vote...Is that really democratic?

It's all about secular party!

Only just found out about this party and they are getting my tick of approval.
We stand for:

* A woman's right to choose an abortion
* Voluntary euthanasia
* The right to die
* Embryonic stem cell research
* Same-sex marriage

We stand against:

* Censorship
* Religious indoctrination of minors
* Counter-productive "anti-terror" restrictions on civil liberties

Personal freedoms should be based on modern secular humanist principles. Only secularism can guarantee religious freedom, and we endorse this freedom. However those who adhere to faith-based morality frequently seek to impose their religious views on the entire population. This occurs in policies concerning areas such as abortion, voluntary euthanasia, stem cell research, drug policy and gay rights.

The Secular Party believes in equal human rights. Same-sex couples should enjoy the same rights and privileges as heterosexual couples, in inheritance, and for all ceremonial, financial, legal and medical purposes. Our policies on issues of high moral content, such as abortion and voluntary euthanasia, favour freedom of choice, and are based on rational assessment of the relevant issues.

The Secular Party supports the right to access legal information and entertainment. Internet censorship is a tool commonly used by tyrannical regimes. It is hypocritical for Australia to introduce a broad internet censorship scheme which is in principle no different from an authoritarian one.

Under current laws, the Australian Communications and Media Authority may investigate and fine websites hosted in Australia if they contain illegal material; we believe that this is an appropriate method of regulating internet content. Given the technical and ethical concerns with a broad filtering of all internet content, the Secular Party is opposed to any kind of internet filter

We believe in:

* Equal opportunity for all children
* Universal secular education
* Compulsory sex and drug education
* Anti-discrimination and anti-homophobia education
* Harm minimisation for drug users
* Crime prevention, not large prison populations
* Proper funding for our health system
* Fair wages and conditions
* Lower taxes and a broader tax base
* Properly funded social security and pensions
* A secular republic with an Australian head of state

Been reading over their stuff, they seem spot on with my views. And I'm sure many of you bluelighters will agree ;)

They don't have a direct drug policy as far as I can see. But based on everything else I think they would take it in the right direction.

(Mods if you feel this should be moved to a different location feel free)

Bullshit. Is it democratic to have a population which is totally disengaged from politics and just allows its leaders to do whatever they like with no more dissent than a few cynical catchphrases like this? Better to vote, and then pay some attention to the state elections. These are the decisions that govern how society functions. Christ, all you have to do is spend 20 minutes a day reading the news online. It's free and it's not very hard.

As to compulsory voting, the example of the US shows us that if voting is not compulsory, the people who don't vote are often the most disenfranchised (African Americans and poor people). Optional voting becomes a means by which disempowered people are further excluded from the political process.

Basically it seems like he is saying he doesn't give a shit that he is free.
He should be free to not vote, because he isn't interested in it. So really, he wouldn't give a fuck if our policies started sliding towards something like chinas ?

what would it take for you to start voting ? to start helping push for a country that is better for you and your friends? When you start getting lashings for getting caught with 1gram of pot ? crumbs of a pill? Or for being fined for evading the internet censorship to read this forum ? Being searched at random by police without reason ? (WA), or maybe when the Association law starts comming for you because you hang out with a certain group of people that might use drugs allowing police to search your house without warrant ?

when? never? surely you have some interest in one of those i listed?

What a bullshit cop out. But whatever, just continue living in your bubble of ignorance, just like the other hundred of your type i have come across in the lead up to this election. "hurr durr why should i vote durr" ... I can't see it as anything other than just being a immature fool.

Well yeah, if people don't care and don't want to vote then id say thats more democratic then forceing these people.

All I have to do is spend 20min each day reading the news. Do you really think thats an achievable goal for the general population? There are a lot of people out there who have no intrest in current events and just because you think they should watch the news doesn't mean they will. I think it would be great if people excerised for 20min each day but thats not going to happen either.

Acidprime"Basically it seems like he is saying he doesn't give a shit that he is free"

Yeah feel free to twist and distort what im saying. I hardly say being forced to vote is a freedom. And im not against voteing. If voteing was voluntary then only people who have an intrest will vote. They will make an informed vote.

I would have been more then happy to vote if it didn't mean I would have to vote every time. And also all these bad things you listed all came from governments that were voted by a population that had no choice(to vote).

"What a bullshit cop out. But whatever, just continue living in your bubble of ignorance, just like the other hundred of your type i have come across in the lead up to this election. "hurr durr why should i vote durr" ... I can't see it as anything other than just being a immature fool."

And you like the idea these immature fools are deciding the countries future?

I don't vote either... for various reasons.

A) i dont like the idea if that for whatever reason i can't make it to vote when i should - i'm fined for that.

B) that it's forced upon me, and not an option

C) that i don't want to vote in the lesser of two evils in my opinion, to fuck up the country more than it is already.

Well, I hope you change your minds in the future. Especially you static_mind; you have a smart head on your shoulders, and I would like your smarts to be applied to politics through your vote :)

As for the compulsory system, if you don't want to 'vote', you can donkey vote. And it's only compulsory for state and federal (local is voluntary - I never bother with local elections as they are about issues that I don't really care for). So, it takes less than an hour of my time less than once year to vote in state and federal elections. It's not much time to have a say.

I know a lot of people don't have hope that change can happen. I'm a bit of an optimist though, so I tend to lean towards hope for a better future than nihilism.

Oh - for those of you who will be voting - check out https://www.belowtheline.org.au/
