Blood test req'd by psychiatrist

I figured this would be the better forum for this question. I was just prescribed depakote 250 mg one time a day at night.
The psychiatrist wants bloodwork done for a complete chemical analysis, organ analysis, and another specific chemical level.
Would anyone know of be able to define complete chemical analysis? Is that non-layman for "drug test"?
Its mainly a test to see about possible liver damage, or that possible automatic liver failure Depakote may cause, but I'm wondering if its also a chance for him to see what other drugs I might be currently on. Is there a website that may have some information on blood tests for certain drugs?

Bloodwork does not equal a drug test. If they were planning on testing your blood for narcotics they would have to tell you.....Doctors cant play games with people, you have a right to know Exactly WHAT they are testing your blood for...on a side note many prescription drugs require regular blood work due to the fact that they can have some nasty side effects on your body AND these side effects can start at virtually any time....thus you will be tested on a regular basis to reduce the chance of you suffering any adverse reactions to the medications......dont worry man..you'll get used to the needle... ;)
 
the doc can get a drug test done if he wants and not saying anything about it ....
 
BogBubble No....a doctor can NOT give you a drug screen and not tell you about it!!!! UNLESS you are under the age of 18...and even then I doubt it...when you go to get your blood drawn the nurse that takes the blood sample has a form which states EVERYTHING you are being tested for AND you can look at that form or just ask him/her if any of the samples were going to be screened for drugs....:P
 
If you are taking depakote then he probably wants a depakote level. Depakote can cause liver damage at therapeautic doses and this is likely the reason for the test. Most modern non jesus loving doctors will not trick you into a drug test. Also, most drug tests are taken from urine samples.
 
Forget the above (sorry didnt fully read the question). I actually think a "complete chemical analysis" sounds sketchy. That seems like it could easily include a check for "toxins". Screw that doctor.
 
When you are on depakote, it is MANDATORY that you get blood work done to check for the levels of depakote in your bloodstream periodically.
The doctor is testing for depakote and possibly other liver-damaging therapeutics you may be on. You are not being tested for illicit substances.
Anyone who thinks you are getting tested for illegal drugs obviously doesn't know anything about how the psychiatric field works.
 
This is why he wants bloodwork while you are taking depakote: Depakote only exhibits it's anti-seizure action at nearly toxic doses.So doctors do this so they can *maybe* keep the depakote from turning your liver into a saddle.
 
Trust me, it's a routine test you will have to go through to check for liver problems - about once every few months... if you have ever been on Accutane (the zit medication) you have to go through the same stuff .. they can not do un-authorized tests, so be sure to ask the doctor specifcally WHAT they will be testing for ..
