for the past week and a half i have been taking about 30-40 mgs of vicodin almost on a daily basis. Well now, for the past couple of days i have been sick, having high fevers and a sore throat. I havent been taking any vicodin since the day i became sick and i'm pretty sure that withdrawl has nothing to do with my sickness. I went to the doctor yesterday and found out that i had blood in my urine....my question is, is it possible that the opiates in my system could be involved with the blood in my urine, or is it just something else?? Any information will be greatly appreciated.

I've never heard of anyone having blood in there urine from takin opiates and i know a decent amount of people that take hydro/oxycotin...
you might get some better responses posting this in the health forum though.

opiates, for the most part, are not physiacally bad for you (altho some, like demerol, have toxic metabolites), so im pretty sure the vicodin has nothing to do with your bladder infection. you might have something like a bladder infection or kidney infection, which may go hand in hand with your illness. the best way to clear your body of infection is to drink a pile of water, like at least 3L/day; this gives your immune system a chance to flush everything out.
if anything, its the evil APAP in teh vicodin thats the culprit, but even that usually only affects the liver.

He did!

40mg with 5mg/vicoden is around 4g's of apap daily, which may be causing the kindney difficulties.

I'd agree with High and Mighty on this one, 4gs of APAP will deffinately fuck up your kindneys and liver, I dont like even taking a one gram. Peace

First of all, this thread should be in the health forum.
Second, it's EXTREMELY unlikely that your illness and blood in urine are related to your opiate use. And 4 grams of acetaminophen is really not enough to cause any problems in the vast majority of users. I occasionally take several grams of the stuff a day (I'm not suggesting this to others, btw!) and I've never had a single negative effect from it.
I'm not sure why there would be blood in your urine -- I know that urinary tract infections/bladder infections and also some STDs can result in bloody urine, but it doesn't seem that likely in your case.
It's good you went to your doctor, whom I am sure will be able to run some tests and diagnose you thoroughly. But don't worry about the opiate use too much -- b/c at your level of use physical problems/damage are very uncommon.

Well the doctor asked for another urine sample, and this time he found out that there wasnt any blood in my urine. Which I am pleased to find out. I'm guessing it was just due to my illness, but thanks for all the information.
