Blog Staff Discussion, version 2

Hey,

So it's been a while since we've had one of these threads. Pretty well since Hoptis was able to make all the shiny new improvements to Blogs' visibility IIRC. Lately a couple of issues have been coming to mind that I think might benefit from open discussion.

Mainly, it's the trend of microblogging that has been going on lately. It seems mostly to be cervan's two line posts, and shoolameet's virtually contentless drug photo posts. Personally, I'm annoyed by the former (since she has in the past posted enough two-liners to knock nearly everyone else off the page), but I don't necessarily think that it warrants any action yet. The latter however is starting to piss me off, especially with his latest post. Perhaps I'm being over-sensitive, but it seems like he's being a bit inflammatory, and I'm not too crazy about that.

I haven't replied to his latest ('witty slogans') yet, as I'm concerned that I might be a bit too snarky. But if my sentiments are shared, I'd be more than happy to remind him to keep things civil or leave.

These are my thoughts of late. Any opinions? Any other issues?

On a personal note, I'm amazed that I've remembered the password to this account! Yay me!

Well while I agree these blogs are really annoying and kind of rub me the wrong way- they don't really break any rules- so I think the best thing we can do is maybe somehow suggest people posting blogs with more substance.......
but how to say that, I'm not sure.
Maybe we can lead by example- or maybe.....like we have at the top of the page the 'random blogs' is there a way to choose what Blog goes there? If so we could ask people to start rating the blogs they read and have a "BLOG of the month" to encourage good blogs-
Overdone has always given us some pretty good blogs. Should we somehow give like some sort of "honored blogger" of the month??
Im just spitting out the things that are popping into my mind here....

Not sure but it sure would be nice to put an end to the random crap being posted

 

You could say this is a blog, not a microblog and definitely not Twitter.

 

ok- i will watch and then PM with that response (but in my words) next time cervan or crevan or whatever her name is posts..........

though it is not against Blog rules, one liners and random 'twitter' like entries are not really what BL Blogs is about.
We appreciate your interest and hope you will continue to post appropriately.

Okay- excellent post Dave, on the guidelines.

I have spoken with DW through PM about her issues with Blogs and explained that this is not TDS and we have a separate set of rules here.
She agreed to sticking to Blogs she knew and that was that.
While I understand her position- I am against the whole title labeling thing. I do know she is using and this may be the reason for her memory lapse in the previous PM's we sent each other????
But it will pass. I would hate for her to stop coming to Blogs- but she has to learn to separate Blogs from TDS.
All of BL does not post 'could be triggering' in titles, I don't see why we should.

 

Thanks! That is my opinion as well, but I thought that due to her tenure and the fact that she actually writes more substantial posts I wanted to make sure that she stuck around. I was hoping that you could be a bit more forceful than me-- I'm a bit of a pushover at times.

Sorry-- I made this thread and then didn't check in to see your suggested post. It's basically the same as what I wrote, but I should still have used your contribution ocean. I was feeling annoyed with the microposts and grandiose on Sunday, and thought that I'd try my hand at taking care of it. Glad to hear that we're on the same page though

Hey guys, I know I've been absent for some time. I'm sorry about that, I've come into some legal troubles and haven't had the time, energy or enthusiasm for BL the last few months. I'll hopefully be around a bit more now so if you have any issues, problems, suggestions or comments please let me know.

Otherwise, I'd love to hear from you on how Blogs has been going.

Glad you're doing better......Hope everything worked out for the best.
Blogs has been going alright..... We were doing interactive themes there for a little while which was fun but we've slowed down on themes and at the moment aren't doing one....Guess its time to pick one out.
Other than that, all is well on the home front.

I'm sorry to hear about your legal troubles, and hope that they get resolved quickly (and with the right result).

Ocean's pretty well said it all. We're kind of in a holding pattern right now, but there's enough people posting in general that it isn't lifeless. I can't speak for ocean, but I've been battling a bout of demotivation (among other things) lately which has made it hard to put much effort into anything. Even this. But I'm pulling out of it now, so I'm going to try to put in a bit more time here.

But not right now. I've got to go run before my ass gets too stuck to the couch. Great to hear from you hoptis

Heya guys, I just wanted to bring a quick thing to your respective attentions. I was referring someone to the BLUA today, and usually I link through the Blogs Guidelines post. But from the looks of it, the link is dead-- probably since the Wiki is live the old FAQ got ported over.

I can't edit the link, as it's not in Blogs proper, but the correct link is: http://wiki.bluelight.ru/index.php/Bluelight_User_Agreement_%28BLUA%29.

So the BLUA is moved into Wiki now is what you are saying? Or there is a copy in iy and the old copy's link doesn't work?
