Blindfold trips

I dedicate this thread to tripping in total darkness, with a blindfold on for at least most of the time. Not something I've ever tried before, but I would like to do it on 3 or 3.5 grams of mushrooms in the next couple of months. I imagine the experience would be quite dissociative - proprioception would be disoriented, visuals would become very focused, and all sense of being in the real world would likely disappear, immersing the tripper in wherever it is their mind takes them. I also imagine this setting would make the psychological effects of the psychedelic in question much stronger.

Please note this thread is distinct from threads about sensory deprivation tanks. I plan to set up a tent in my room and do it in there.

Total sensory deprivation, i.e. no music, would be fascinating too and perhaps a little overwhelming. I usually trip with the accompaniment of music, so I plan to build a nice long playlist, this time at least, to help guide my thoughts and emotions through the inward journey.

So who's done it? How did it go?

This sounds like a very interesting idea, however it would take a lot of patience to do this. I can imagine getting frustrated and wanting to rip off the blindfold, which would probably feel very uncomfortable.

Me and my buddie I usally take deep shroom trips we take large doses(5-6grams,) and once they kick in and the nausia passes we blindfold ourselfs and journy inward.

Yes it definitely feels journey-like. Passing through distorted memories and vivid dream like mindscapes.

I've achieved this by going in a floatation tank another time by pulling the covers of a huge fluffy blanket over me and also by using a blindfold/sleeping mask type of thing created by Alex Grey called a mindfold.

i want to try this soon with mushrooms aswel sounds very interesting, birthdays coming up i just may have to do it been saving some excellent ones for the perfect occasion, also havent been tripping as often as i have before so the mushrooms should blow my doors off, hopefully.

i already close my eyes alot on mushrooms probably more so than with most other psychedelic compounds ime so it should go quite well for me. i think ill throw music in this time to, i have only tripped to music a couple times this year unfortunately. ill definitely report back after my experience in a week or so.

also i have closed my eyes through a very intense mushroom peak before and it felt/looked as if i was in a all black room or possibly in outer space or in my mother/fathers body possibly, there was definitely objects floating through space alot of circles/dots i dont remember to much colors was really hard to grasp on whats actually happening and remember it fully, i also felt a thrust in my body like i was being pushed upwards through something, very interesting. heard alot of noises to my senses were going ape shit at the time. i also had the feeling of traveling to old places i have been to before, was like i was returning back to something. was alot like traveling ime. oevs that night were very nice to was like a artist was getting down on some painting right in front of my eyes very pretty stuff.

I haven't tried this myself, but off the top of my head, I don't see why it would be any different than just closing your eyes in a dark or dimly lit room. In other words, why the blindfold? Personally, I would just find it annoying/uncomfortable and would wind up being less immersed than I am when I close my eyes and meditate.

A dark or should I say dimmed room can still provide reference points about your orientation and whereabout unless you have the type of shades that can completely blind your room. Same thing for closing your eyes: it produces slight pressure on the eyeballs and is not a perfect darkness. The pressure can cause phosphenes. It's not visual artifacts we're after but something else.
The point is to get lost. Sensory deprivation will do curious things, the mind is built to take in as much information as possible for (I think) obvious reasons and depriving it of sensory information will make it reach and bend, fill in what is missing with anything available. You don't want some light traces in your room becoming the focus of your attention. You want to force your mind to start accepting imagination as information to process. So much and for so long that this imagination replaces the situation of your reality.

I agree that a blindfold can be uncomfortable which is why I find covering up with thick bed covers in an already dimmed room sufficient, and better yet the mindfold I was talking about is made so that there is no pressure on the eyeballs. You can keep your eyes open with them and still see nothing but darkness.

Personally, I think these small details matter because of what happens with sensory deprivation.

the only way to fly;)

I'd also like to give my endorsement to the mindfold as well as this technique...i read LSD psychotherapy by Stanislav Grof and this is the exact technique he used for therapy which was my purpose for use. i've done it solo in bed with the mindfold and ipod probably 40x now...i only take low/moderated doses. seems like the trip is intensified many times over making a small amount adequate for deep exploration. IME.
hyperventilation and chanting included in this mix is very powerful as well...my most profound experience to date included the use of them..

i also have a camelbak for water with the hose right by my head and 2 bedside urinal deals so i don't ever have to get up...recommend to all.

I always trip with as little distraction as possible. In complete darkness or not, I find I get A LOT more out of my experiences without music or conversing with people at all, in total (or as close to) silence - it's lead to a scenario in which I never imbibe for recreational purposes, but I'm not bothered by that.

Natural sounds, such as those made by water trickling down a river, can also have significant effects, but silence is more advantageous for exploration.

Go for it, Flickering. Go silent, along with the blindfold - you won't regret it. ;)

Be prepared: 3.5 grams of dried subaeruginosa without any distractions will take you very far away indeed.

I noticed that in my last mushroom trip (about a week ago), the peak of healing energies and therapeutic effects were achieved when I lay down in relative darkness and silence, and were interrupted by sounds (people walking by my window).

When there was silence, I was gradually overcome with colorful vibrations from the inside, branching out from my spine, strengthening all my neurological connections, the feeling of my neurons being washed with a mess of colorful harmonic vibrations was akin to a strong DMT trip, but one that I had comfortably waded into, as opposed to the scary sudden onset of smoked DMT.

I intend to explore this further. Yes.

Solipsis, I really like the way you described this, it's exactly what I was thinking.

I'm very much looking forward to this journey. I have no idea what to expect, but I'm hoping it will take me through the dreamy back corridors of my mind, and vividly into some old memories of being at peace with the world.

Excellent.

This is a great thread. I have always wanted to do this. My plan was to set myself up in a room with everything i may need and put the blindfold on before i come up- but would leave it on until i woke up the next morning. Hopefully it will add a new sense of appreciation to the next day :)

Great to hear that others have had very positive experiences with blindfold trips. Floatation tank would also be spectacular!

Excellent! The only downside I can see about having made this change involves the misunderstandings I've had with friends I used to party with. Quite a few people wouldn't accept that I didn't want to trip recreationally any more, and some pestered me about it constantly. I even lost a few friends over it (even when I have always been totally accepting of others' choices), which was kind of weird.

But, I also brought a few over to the silent side, which makes for interesting nights ;) The conversations you have with your friends after the experience (on the come-down) are always fascinating when everyone there has had a completely personal experience. Of course, you may have some idea of what others have gone through by the noises you hear in the dark.

I'd also like to hear more about anyone's experiences with floatation tanks.

I wanna do this with no music. Sounds like its the real deal.
i would either do this floating in a bathtub or;
I would take my shrooms in a field. drink water and piss and then lie down in the field within 10 minutes of dosing. set a timer for 6 hours later. Equip blindfold and noise cancelling headphones (no music). remove blindfold 6 hours later hopefully just as the sky is starting to turn yellow before the sun rises.

Not mushrooms. But I tripped on DXM in a basement bathroom. Completely dark. I went in cuz I had to piss but couldn't see my hand in front of my face cuz I forgot to turn the light on (lights in the basement were off and it was midnight). Any way I couldn't find my way out so I laid in the shower for 6 hours. The last 2 being me reflecting on my ridiculous trip. Not much visual, because it was DXM, but it was me and my mind alone with no distractions. Definitely want to try on mushies.

Iv done this a few times on mushrooms and it is very interesting. i always black out a room in the house(cover the windows with dark blankets, don't let any light come under the door ect.) and just lay around with some music and trance out. its crazy i find there's a lot more to darkness than just black. It didn't work as good on acid tho i just found myself getting bored and wanted to go walk around and look at stuff in the light.

After much reflection, I have decided that next weekend, I will take 2.5g at the local park. After adjusting to the effects by light of sunset, in a relaxing and natural place, I will make my way back home, where I will redose an extra 1g about an hour into the trip. From there I will enter the tent, blindfold myself, put on noise-cancelling headphones, and play a two-hour playlist. When it ends, I will keep the headphones on so as to block out all noise, and stay there in total silence. Best of both worlds.

I'll tell you all how it goes if I make it back.
