Remember in the beginning of "The Empire Strikes B
It's a cold night, but it's summertime.
Dark and cold, but not in bed.
You're curled up like a ball of joy,
I think about a day, where I get to take my shoes off behind our door.
I check the mail, and see a note:
"I left dinner in the oven".
I take out the pasta,
and think twice about a piece of garlic bread.
While it's warming up,
I sneak to the bedroom.
The door is slightly open and thanks to the moon and stars,
I can see you curled like a ball.
My hands are cold, but the warm meal you've made,
makes me toasty.
I finish the meal, making me full and content. I close the drapes, and turn off the lights.
Switching on the bathroom light,
I look @ our toothbrushes,
side by side.
Blue next to yellow,
colgate 2-in-1,
three kinds of floss,
two different kinds of soap.
While brushing,
I smell your towel, you've used it recently.
I bet your hair is still wet,
still in curls.
Turning off the light, I enter our room.
This, our secret domain, where we laugh and smile @ each other and with ourselves.
I slowly get into my Paul Frank Kung Fu PJs,
they felt kinda rough @ first,
but now, they feel almost as soft as your cute Old Navy tie-dye pants.
Slipping under the blankets,
careful not to mess them up.
The sheets are crisp,
and smell like flowers.
The moon and stars and clouds are alive tonight,
and fill our windows.
I lie there, praying silently.
Thanking God for such a wonderful life.
Finishing, I close my eyes,
and instinctively you lean towards me.
"I missed you."
"I did too."
I kiss your neck, and we spoon,
silently.
You take my hand,
and interlock your teeny tiny fingers into mine.
Your hair, still wet, tickles my chest,
our hands on your stomach.
I'm glad that my hands are warm,
and that I didn't eat that garlic bread.
"Could you turn around?"
"Why?"
"Because I want to end my day like I started it."
You turn, and I kiss you softly on the lips.
"Thank you for warming up the blankets."
"You're welcome, dear."
