Opioids Bladder Infections with Opiates

I went to the doc yesterday and didn't even know I was sick. It was supposed to be a well visit to set myself up with a new PC doc here in this new area I moved to. I have been feeling fatigued because I just got over a stomach virus but other than that I felt okay. It turned out I had a fever of 102 and didn't know it. So I have always had issues pushing my pee out since starting my pain management meds. I have to push really hard to get my pee to come out almost like constipation of the bladder. lol They had me pee in a cup and they found high levels of bacteria and they also found glucose in my urine which is not normal at all. I do not have diabetes. So they sent me for further blood work which I will find out more in 72 hours. But my question is this. Do any of you in pain management have trouble with bladder infections? I seem to get them more often now since I have been on Fentanyl and Opana or Nucynta than I ever did before pain management. If so do you have any idea why I would have so many? I'm sure I didn't know I was sick because my pain meds were holding the pain at bay. Before pain management any time I had a bladder or UTI I would be in excruciating pain. alot of people who use and abuse opiates have this problem. opiates cause bladder and bowel retention. it becomes harder to urinate and to have bowel movements. kidney and bladder problems are quite common for opiate dependant people and those who need pain management. and yes most likely the pain meds had blocked out the pain (the natrual indicator for your body to know there is a problem)

when urination becomes a problem and is backed up into bladder/kidneys it causes infection

I know an old lady who is eaten up with osteoarthritis and she gets frequent urinary tract infections. I never considered it may be opiate related, since she's on Fentanyl patches. Hmmm.

I think this just happened to me! I actually felt the pain over my pain meds and I was pissing blood. I need to drink more water.. the opiates cause me to not drink enough water and I think thats my problem... Apparantly I have one of the worst bladder infections they have seen in a while. Ugh! You are not alone.
